Instructions
Threshold Transmitter does not appear to work.
- Press Mode button and verify Green light turns ON when button is pressed. Check that the Low Battery Indicator is not flashing Red.
- Check/replace batteries in Threshold Transmitter and Receiver Collar.
- Move the Receiver Collar closer to the Transmitter to test operation.
- If you hold the Mode Button longer than 5 seconds, the Transmitter will turn off.
Barrier Area range is too low.
- Check/replace batteries in Receiver Collar and Transmitter.
- Adjust Threshold Transmitter level to increase Barrier Area size.
Barrier Area range is too high.
- Adjust Threshold Transmitter level to decrease Barrier Area size.
Pet seems to receive no stimulation.
- Check/replace batteries in Receiver Collar.
- Use Test Light Tool to check for static correction.
- Check Receiver Collar fit to ensure Contact Points have direct skin contact.
- Check the setting on the Threshold Transmitter.
Unable to hear Receiver Collar tone.
- Check/Replace batteries in Receiver Collar.
- Pets easily hear tone but it may be a volume level that is difficult for you to hear.
- Use the Test Light Tool to check Receiver Collar for Static Correction.
No LED light on Threshold Transmitter.
- Press and hold the Mode Button until the Green LED light is ON.
- Check/replace batteries in Threshold Transmitter.
FAQ
The PetSafe Pawz Away Threshold Pet Barrier keeps your pet from entering or leaving a certain room, from going up or down stairs, off of furniture, etc. Just place the Threshold Transmitter near the area your pet should avoid. The Threshold Pet Barrier transmits an adjustable elliptical radio signal. Your pet wears a Receiver Collar with Contact Points that touch his neck. When your pet enters the Barrier Area, he’ll hear a series of audible tones from the Receiver Collar and he will feel a safe Progressive Static Correction, delivered through the Contact Points on his neck. The Progressive Static Correction will get his attention, but will not cause harm. The correction continues until your pet leaves the Barrier Area. The PetSafe Pawz Away Threshold Pet Barrier has been proven safe, comfortable, and effective for pets at least 6 months old and 5 pounds or more.

Epic failure
I have used other Petsafe products with great success so I bought this without doing any research. I should have read the other reviews first. I got this for our cat, put the collar on him and placed the transmitter. he walked right up to it sniffed it and continued on completely unphased. I tightened the collar and turned up the collection level and tried again. Cat sat on the transmitter, I then started to check the collar fitting and zapped myself! Never once did this effect the cat.
Cat didnt even notice
My cat walked over the barrier without even noticing. He clearly is a masochist, as most cats are.
Not even gonna try
Wanted to find something to keep my cat off the stairs and thought this might work. It seemed like a good idea. I have never used a collar like this before. What I didn't realize was that the collar has 1/2 long posts that point into the underside of the pet's neck. Don't leave on for more than 12 hours at a time, and adjust every 1-2 hours. I cannot imagine putting those posts into my cat's neck and I am returning without even trying. I appreciate Chewy's return policy.
Not effective on strong-willed dog
Very little deterrent for strong willed dog in my house. Sound not loud at all.
Not for small animals as descibed
I purchased to keep a young cat from going into a laundry room where a dog door is. The collar is suppose to fit as small as a 6" neck, the collar is large and bulky. Not even my 15 lb adult cat would tolerate its weight and bulkiness. Not to mention the settings are difficult to set up, once I did even the lowest setting is too much for a cat. I couldn't figure out how to just make it beep without the zap for training.
Hit or miss
I gave this a 2 because when we first got it, it worked. However, for the price, it should work all the time and consistently. I have 3 dogs and the collar for the one we need it for the most, it works here and there. There is a sounds that’s made and the dogs don’t seem to care that much at all about it and then nothing. I wish the directions were better and one of the directions was downright incorrect. We had to YouTube it to get the correct answer. I would not recommend or purchase again.
Absolutely A Waste of Money
I bought this product because it had so few reviews and I was giving it the benefit of the doubt. Do not do this. It's very difficult to set up, the batteries do not stay in, and the instructions are terrible. Despite all this, we did set it up correctly. It worked for maybe a week (kind of) but after that, it now will beep once if we're lucky, but no shock, nothing. I thought everyone was exaggerating or didn't know how to work it properly. I was wrong. Do not make the same mistake as me. This is a warning to not waste your money like I did. I am working on getting a return as I write this.
don’t buy it
5 minutes after my old English bulldog got a hold of it, the lights and squeaker stopped working.
Waste of time and money
The device covers a fraction of the area it states. The collar had to be within 6 in. of the transmitter at the highest level to get the tones and stimulation. I returned the device.
Simply does not work.
My dog is completely un-phased by it and continually walks right over it. Surprising since I use the Petsafe Invisible Fence outside and it works great. This product should not be on the market. Completely ineffective.
