I bought this thinking it looks similar to Freshstep but it definitely doesn't last as long or deodorize as well. This litter works for maybe a week compared to fresh steps 30 days. The crystals do not soak up my cats urine. All of the urine mostly sinks to the bottom. Clean up is okay because it will mostly slide out of the litter bin but the wet parts need extra wiping. Cat seems uncomfortable after use because after a week it seems to have stayed wet. It also seems sharper, tracks a lot further on my pets paws, and we end up stepping on it all over the house. I didn't not notice that happening nearly as much with Fresh Step.
I recommend this litter be mixed with another. I have the petsafe auto litter box. 3 pets. 3 boxes. Likes: holds smell before it turns into sand, less tracking (I don't use entire bag at once) Dislikes: turns into smelly sand and urine mix after a few uses from the kitty, price To combat the dislike, I mix with a cassava based natural clumping litter so I can scoop out urine. But having this clumping and crystal litter mix meant I had to scoop almost daily. That's better than my house smelling like a litter box.
I purchased the two pack approximately ten days ago. It is now completely gone. The formula appears different than when my prior cat used this before she crossed the rainbow bridge seven months ago. My new cat is struggling to adjust to his new food and home and while the litter dried everything, it looked like I had a tiny pet cow using my litter box. Litter has also been tracked across multiple rooms, even with a litter rug being used. So I would not suggest this currently. The smell or lack there of was the reason why I gave some stars. The odor of him getting sick was barely detectable.
I usually buy Fresh step crystal cat litter 8-lb bags. Since they were out of it, I bought this Scoop Free Premium Crystal Litter. (2-pack). I should say it's as good as Fresh step crystal cat litter.
Looks nicer than regular litter which is why I originally bought it. My kitten won’t use it. The crystals are on the rougher, sharper side - I’m thinking this could be why. Oh well.
The crystal litter is chunky and sharp, finer litter) would work better. (Avoid ‘lightweight’ litter.) The chunks feel like large shards of glass to humans, and I assume it’s painful and annoying for cats to step into multiple times on a daily to use. The litter gets out of the box a lot because since it’s larger, it sticks to the cat’s paws. This has caused a lot of problems. TLDR: The litter gets out frequently and hurts you and potentially your cat when stepping onto. Btw, it doesnt really cover the cat poop.
This litter still tracks and it feels like glass under foot when you step on it. The pee stays wet in the bottom of the box. I would not use this again.
While this letter works well with the automatic scoop free litter box, the problem is that my cat's pee doesn't clump like his poop does. So, after 5-6 days there's just a soggy mass at the bottom of the box with little dry litter for him to cover his poop with. I'm having to change the box at least once a week which has gotten a little pricy. So, after struggling with this for more than a year, I'm going back to a regular litter box with clumping litter.
I noticed there wasn't as much litter in the last bags I got. I contacted the company and was told they reduced the amount 5% after "rigorous testing". I get 1/3 less uses from a bag of litter than before the quantity was reduced.
I decided to switch to crystal litter and hope it performs well. Little did I know my cat would end up with a virus resulting in freq. diarrhea. Let me tell you, this litter passed the test! It was easy to scoop and no smell left. Will definitely continue to purchase!
