    Really like the new model

    By on

Very good for the price, especially since it uses grocery bags! Moving the LED to the other side was a great idea, along with making it multi-color for troubleshooting. The redesigned conveyor cover increases the usable portion of the pan considerably. We went through 3 of the 1st model in about 2 years, but that was running 2 at a time, with 3 cats. Compared to the price of other self-cleaning litter pans and their proprietary bag sizes/shapes, this thing is a damm good deal!

    Has Pros and Cons

    By on

I’ve gone through 3 of these litterboxes in about a year. Chewy replaced it twice (which is amazing!) All three times it has just... stopped working with no real indication as to why. I love the fact that it cleans itself as I have a very picky cat. However, she flings litter everywhere which can get in the crevices and cause the device to stop working. I will probably purchase another one since it has made scooping almost nonexistent, however, if I had the budget for a more expensive one I would go with that.

    On the fence

When I first purchased this I was so impressed. I absolutely loved it. When it was apparent that the conveyer motor needed to be changed I ordered replacement ones for the bowl as well. I have two. Have to get the replacement motors from the manufacturer. Ok. I did. Watched a video, read the directions. No problem. But...now the conveyer won’t work. Re-checked to be sure it was put on correctly, correct amount of litter. But the conveyer just wouldn’t work. I contacted the manufacturer about it. But no refund, no help. So, even though I love this product, if it won’t work after replacement parts are put in my only choice is either go back to regular litter boxes or spend the high price every When I first purchased this I was so impressed. Surprisingly good

I really like this litter box overall! So, long story short, I actually bought and still use the purple PetSafe box which uses crystal litter, but I have a cat with severe litter box anxiety and he doesn't like to use the crystal litter for more than a day or two so he uses the bathroom on the floor and we have to change the litter way more often than we should with an automatic box. So I wanted to find a way to have a second litter box with clumping litter and this box was affordable enough to justify owning two automatic litter boxes (I do have two cats!). I love this box! I don't fully understand how it works but it works like a charm and my cats seem to really like it. The litter poop trap I really like this litter box overall! The litter poop trap is convenient and I found a litter box cabinet on Wayfair that this giant box actually fits in so that's cool, too. I only gave it 4 stars because it was quiet for the first day and then got really loud. I live in a small apartment so it isn't ideal. I also don't understand why it has to run all the time. Like. All the time. It runs every 30 minutes, for 30 minutes, which means it is literally making sound all the time. I unplug it for half the day because my cats don't need it that often and it gets really annoying. I saw another review that recommended getting an outlet timer so I would definitely recommend that as well. But it's affordable and it does the job! … more

    Broken in 2 weeks

    By on

We have a 8 pound cat. I call this out because the litter box doesn't really get that much use. Well anyways, within 2 weeks of receiving the litter box the motor broke and it stopped spinning! Really disappointed in the quality, we've had the older model of box before and it lasted us for years! Unfortunate that quality went down.

    not as good

this is a replacement for the older model. even though the older ones had a short life span i liked them better. i started with four, for five cats, and i have replaced them all at least once without issue. i bought two to replace two and they have to constantly be adjusted. the litter keeps sticking to the track and won't go up. the lights keep blinking even when it runs without issue. i loved it before but now not so much.

Love it in spite of some problems

I am ordering my 5th Simply Safe automatic litter box. My first three were the old model litter box. The motors burned out periodically and had to be changed. Customer Service was extremely cooperative on repairs and replacement of the entire system. Now they have a new system which is really the old one with improvements to the areas that drew the most complaints. I am hoping these work better that the first three. My cats like using this box. I have a mat under the active one now. I just dump the mat in the garbage can about once a week. Use a lightweight clumping litter for best performance.

    Mixed review...

OK for the money. Probably quite good for smaller, healthy cats. I have 2 large cats, they have to really contort themselves to use it. The "conveyor belt" isn't - it's bars that lift up and move up a bit, then sink, slowly drawing the litter up, and I have one cat with constant loose stool, so his tend to just break up and fall back into the litter, making it not very effective. I'm trying a smaller grain litter, that might help, might clump tighter. The litter pan is also too shallow (again probably fine with smaller cats) - litter sticks to the bottom when they urinate (large cats, large urine) (and again, smaller grain litter might help). Switching to A & H litter which is a smaller OK for the money. Probably quite good for smaller, healthy cats. I have 2 large cats, they have to really contort themselves to use it. Been using it for a week and it's a little touchy about having the catch bin in, belt cover down, etc., but (knock on wood) it's worked fairly well all things considered. Assuming it lasts for more than a couple of weeks I would buy it again, even with the complaints I have had so far. … more

    Great until it's not

    By on

For the record - I have an older model but I doubt they made any changes to fix the issue. I bought this model because it was cost effective and I'm not able to scoop the litter due to pregnancy so it made sense at the time. I've had to replace the motor TWICE and I haven't even had it 1 year. The first time it needing replacing was before I had a chance to use it. After speaking to the manufacturer - they said this particular litter box needs to be cleaned on a WEEKLY basis - meaning you have to take the whole bowl apart and vacuum it out and use compressed air to blow out any litter that may have been trapped in the bowl track. Spend the extra money on a better litter box!!

    Not very good

I had the first one and lost the bowl during move. Decided to get the newer one thinking they would have improved the issues with the first. They did the cover for the conveyer stays in place no problem. The guard for the bowl also doesn’t move so that’s great. That is where the positive ends. The sifter that sits in the bowl at bottom of the ramp doesn’t stay down and isn’t flush with the bowl. This prevents the urine from getting completely picked up and creates a layer on the bottom of tray that ruins the rest of the litter and smells awful. The conveyer isn’t as wide as the first and doesn’t move constantly so the waste sits there and sticks to the conveyer making cleaning difficult and gross I had the first one and lost the bowl during move. I still have to sift the cat box and honestly would prefer the first version. It worked much better. This one just gives me a headache and dread when dealing with the cat box. The litter is dirty within 24 hrs of cleaning box and replacing litter. Would not recommend. The only reason I gave it two stars is because they improved some on the last model. I also hate how the two are completely incompatible. So I can’t even take the best of both and make a better one. Honestly just feel disappointed and that I wasted my money. … more
