    So far so good

By SydneyA on Jan 13, 2018

I have a german shepherd that cannot tolerate most foods. We have tried several brands. Best guess at this point is a chicken intolerance. I was glad to find this as most fish formulas seem to still have some form of chicken in them. I also really like the fact it has no peas/chick peas. I was glad to find this as most fish formulas seem to still have some form of chicken in them. I also really like the fact it has no peas/chick peas. We have only been using it for about a week now. We had to switch him instantly, as the last food he was on he started throwing it up after every feeding. He tolerated the switch very well. He did have a couple soft stools, but not diarrhea. That only lasted the first day. We feed him twice a day. He will beg for his food now. Personally I think it smells like cardboard, but I am not the one that has to eat it. His energy level is through the roof. If he continues to do well on it, I am planning to switch my other dogs over to it as well. … more

    Not so hot

By Christa on Mar 21, 2018

I think the packaging swayed me and the ingredients were decent. It was very dry, more so than other kibble I've purchased and my bf said it smelled like Lego's aka plastic. Yes, it didn't smell like fish but closer to a cardboard smell in my opinion. My dog had a hard time going to the bathroom unless I think the packaging swayed me and the ingredients were decent. My dog had a hard time going to the bathroom unless we added water or wet food. She actually wouldn't eat it if we didn't add something to it and she will usually eat anything any everything. … more

this is great dry dog food but whenever it's time to order it's out of stock. I would give 5 stars if this was not a problem.

  • Pioneer Naturals Grain Free

    By on

I switched to this brand after trying many brands. Main reason was to reduce the cost of purchasing food while maintaining the grain free diet. I have tried many many brands. I cant say that this brand has improved anything about my dogs (Vizslas - hungarian pointers 14 and 10yrs old) but I also maintain my dogs in very good shape with daily walks and weekend nose expeditions. I also do not feed table food such as grains, processed foods, or sugar. Im always hoping to find that one bag of food that is going to make their coats the shiniest or reduce all odor but I also wonder is it the dog food or is it the breeding etc? I do know I have two seniors who are very healthy and this food has proven I switched to this brand after trying many brands. Besides going raw I would recommend this brand with high regards. I did many days of research and it has great critic reviews. Thanks for reading :) … more

  • Very Good Product! Allergies? Jury is still out ...

I decided to give this brand a try because I needed to expand my list of rotational, grain-free dog foods for my dogs with allergies to nearly everything. This brand has received rave reviews elsewhere, but I had not noticed it on Chewy until recently. My pets have 1 seafood flavor in their rotation already, but it is based on salmon (with other fish varieties thrown into the mix). I wanted to try this limited ingredient dog food with two protein sources: whitefish meal (i.e., concentrated meat with water content excluded) is the first ingredient, while freeze-dried mussels come in fourth. Yams and sweet potatoes are second and third, and they are the primary carbohydrate sources. Yams and sweet potatoes are second and third, and they are the primary carbohydrate sources. I was happy to see this because I am trying to avoid foods with white potatoes, an all-too-common and less nutritious carbohydrate source for many grain-free foods. According to its ingredient list, it contains premium, anti-oxidant-rich vegetables and fruits: blueberries, bok choy, kale and cranberries, just to name 4. The kibble is also sprayed with a freeze-dried formula of probiotics, chelated minerals - for easier absorption, and enzymes and prebiotics (inulin). You will find salmon oil for those necessary omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. And, finally, kelp for immune support. Pioneer uses only USA-sourced ingredients. They are certified organic before they are sent to the manufacturing plant. All Pioneer dog foods are made in the USA. This dog food is gluten-free as well as grain-free. Here is the nutritional analysis: Crude protein (min.): 20%, fat (min.): 10%, carbohydrates (min.): 42%. The protein content is a bit low for a premium dog food, which is why I gave this food 4 stars instead of 5. The fat content is very low for any dog food, which is somewhat refreshing. Carbohydrate level is about par or slightly lower for most dog foods. In the end, it seems to be a very good dog food from a nutritional standpoint. Oh, and how could I forget!! My dogs love it!! There is no hesitation or problem with transitioning to this dog food! They ate it the first time and every time! As for their extreme food sensitivities and allergies -- this food did not hurt them, but it did not help them either. The dogs and I are struggling with an annual flare-up at the moment which does not seem to notice the great quality of this food. So, I will try this food once again in rotation to determine its overall effect on the health of the dogs and their allergies. … more
