Bought this water fountain for my cat a little over a year ago and it has been working well! While you may think after two months or so "oh this thing is splashing and making so much noise ugh it's broken," please remember that the filter truly does needs changing even though the water is clean. The filter basically is a cat fur collector (thankfully stopping my cat from swallowing fur), but that blocks the water from getting through and makes the fountain sputter and be loud. By cleaning the fountain at least once a week, keeping the water level above the "minimum water line," and changing the filter probably every two months, this fountain will be quiet and clean.
I bought this less than a year ago. At first it was great. Very quiet, and easy to clean. The pump failed about 2 months ago, so I purchased a new pump. That worked for awhile but now it's just noisy Lots of splashing type sounds. I tried adjusting the pump flow, cleaned it many times. It works for a day or two then starts splashing again. It'd totally annoying and I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. So I would hesitate to recommend it now.
Been using it for a couple months with no troubles. Cat likes drinking from a faucet so this fountain was a better choice than most whose weak trickle of water did not interest my feline. Cleaning is pretty easy and replaced the filter when it stopped working and poof water began pouring forth once again.
I have to keep towels all around this fountain because it splashes water everywhere. The stream is so strong that the cats either drink from the stream or their head gets soaked if they try to drink from the bowl. I do not like it one bit.
I bought one for our house cat. About a month ago the pump stopped working. I ordered another pump, but before I put the new one in, I took the old one, watched a Pioneer Pet video on how to take apart the motor and clean it, and tried that. Well that did the trick. The old pump started working again. I recommend this fountain to anyone who has a cat that likes to drink from the sink. They’ll enjoy this.
Both of my cats drink noticeably more water. The 2.5 year old loves drinking directly from the stream coming from the spigot. The 19 year old drinks from the bowl but manages to always have her neck almost in the stream.
It worked well and quietly for a couple of weeks. I have to thoroughly rinse it out at least once a day, or the water pressure really slows down and splashes everywhere. Had it for a couple of months, after doing this everyday, I have found I needed the replacement filters. I bought them, and now it's quiet for maybe a day before I have to wash it out again. It hasn't been as quiet and mess free as it was in the first two weeks I had it. It's a lot of upkeep and just so so after a few weeks.
Everyone is writing how the fountain gets loud and splashes uncontrollably, but once you figure out how to use it correctly, you can run it completely silently at all times. When you clean it (and you do need to clean it weekly at least), you need to put the rubber cylinder on the pump before you put the neck on. Then, once filled and running, you may need to adjust the neck (slightly - go slow and gently) to make it run silently. The cats bump the neck when drinking and that is what makes it sound noisy again - just adjust the neck a tiny bit. Pull it the slightest bit forward or side to side. This IS a silent fountain and it's lovely. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it does seem to collect a lot of crud/goo regularly, and it's difficult to clean the pipe in the neck. I have pipe cleaners to do the trick. I'd love this design in stainless steel.
This worked so well for about two weeks, nearly silent and a steady stream with good laminar flow. Now it will be silent for about a minute, then trickle and gurgle in a non-calming kind of way for like 3 minutes, then silent for 30 seconds, and so on. I've cleaned and reassembled to try to fix it but it's just making this noise forever now I think. I keep a quiet (tiny) home so it's pretty disruptive for me especially at night. For the flow, the cat likes it fine, sometimes I think the stream is a little strong for her and she likes to bap bap at it a little, but she's drinking from it fine.
Everything started off well. The fountain ran fine and at a low volume. However, it was only a little while before the sound of the running water began to disrupt the ambient noise in the room. I tried adjusting the water flow to no avail. Now the sound is akin to someone using the toilet constantly. The water splatters over the edge of the bowl. The cats still use it, but I can't operate it during the day while I'm working from home. The running water noise is loud enough to disrupt my work calls. So it stays unplugged most of the time. I would not recommend it.
