    Very Stunning Rocks!

    By on Top 50 Contributor

Don't be fooled by reviews that say this stone is bad or makes the water cloudy! All you have to do is thoroughly wash off the rocks like all aquarists do to ensure it is perfectly safe and totally clean to go into the aquarium. The person who said it made their water cloudy was because they didn't take the proper precautions, i.e. actually cleaning and sanitizing the rock BEFORE adding it into the aquarium. I got a bag of these a few months ago and they're wonderful! I got three large and two medium rocks and they have so many little nooks and crannies! They definitely compliment certain aquascapes! All I did was take each individual rock out of the bag and wash it thoroughly in some old tank water to ensure I don't introduce anything toxic that may be in tap water. I cleaned the aquarium with rubbing alcohol 24 hours before. I then added planted aquarium substrate, then sand on top of that, the live plants, the sponge filter and heater, then I arranged the rocks. All I had to do was place two of the large rocks into the tank, and voila! No rearrangement was necessary! I then added the glass lid after cleaning it, and added the full-spectrum LED. THIS IS A RIMLESS 5 GALLON AQUARIUM, BY THE WAY! With the porous rocks added, the cycling took less! After being fully established, I added the rescues (Rhubarb, a young 3-month-old Betta who was rescued from an abuse situation, and one young, 3-day-old male Endler's Livebearers fry who was given to me for free). Overall, the aquascape looks beautiful, and I would highly recommend Maple rocks, IF you take the proper precautions and prepare it properly! I use Pisces USA products all the time, and they never fail to impress me! … more

Ruined the clarity of my Aquarium

    By on

They ruined my clear water. There were 2 rocks in the bag, 1 huge and 1 smaller. The red dust was so thick in the bag it puffs out upon opening. I rinsed and washed and rinsed over and over. I thought it would be fine, I could feel the rocks crumble off in my hands as I placed them into my tank. They are pretty..I will say that but within a few hours I could tell my tank was getting murky. It was crystal clear(see pics from just moments after I placed the rocks). I thought it would settle or filter out but by the next morning it was so cloudy I could not see my fish. I regret not taking a photo but I was in such a rush to get my fish out and empty the water. I was curious so I filled my 5 gal tank, I then boiled the rocks, rinsed again and placed them in the clear empty 5 gal and dropped in an air stone and left overnight. Next morning the tank was cloudy. Save your money, save your time and save your tank from the nightmare these rocks will create. … more

    Really nice aquascaping rock.

    By on

This rock looks amazing in the tank. I liked the look of it online and in person even more so. It's orangish/redish hue looks great aginst green plants and when you look closely at it there are little veins of crystals here and there. The one piece I got had a large section that shimmers in the light. BTW, I got four different sized pieces in my bag, with one being fairly large. Overall, very nice rocks that won't disappoint.
