This was Jack’s first time getting cake & ice cream and he was thrilled. I figured he deserved something really special for his 10th birthday. He enjoyed the peanut butter cake with birthday cake flavored ice cream, but there were lots of options on flavors for both desserts. Mixing the cake was just like using a “people” boxed cake mix. This recipe does not rise as much and is a bit more dense than say, Betty Crocker. Clearly, it still tasted great. All the ingredients appeared to be safe for humans but I did not try it. The frosting was more like a glaze. I used my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer not knowing what to expect, but the glaze ended up working out very well. I added a little blue food coloring and some edible glitter to make it fancy. Also, this is not a tiny cake. I’d say the size of the bone shaped baking dish compares to a single standard round cake pan. I will probably buy several mixes and make a layer cake for him next year. Maybe a layer of dog safe peanut butter for the middle? Yum! If you are throwing a party for your pooch, I’d say one single layer cake mix will serve about 10 Labrador sized dogs or probably 20 tiny dogs. The ice cream mix makes enough for about 10 ping pong ball sized servings, so it might be worth buying two ice cream mixes if you want larger servings. Definitely worth the purchase! Thanks, Chewy!
I didn’t think it smelt peanut butter enough so instead of using an egg I used apple sauce & I added 2 spoon full of organic peanut butter. I cooked in microwave & once cut the cake was more powder like but could be because I used the apple sauce instead of egg or because I microwaved instead of baking. Icing was very loose & I ended up just making my own & decorated with bacon sprinkles. Krash gobbled it up & gives 2 paws up. It’s a typical box cake with very easy directions to follow. Definitely convenient for someone in a rush. May just do from scratch next year so there’s more flavor. Powder for cake smelled like peanut butter cardboard.
I ordered cake mix and a birthday gift box it was amazing. The cake was super easy to make and the dogs loved it.
Bella loved the cake and ice cream will definitely get more
