Treatment with PRASCEND (pergolide tablets) may cause inappetence. The use of PRASCEND in breeding, pregnant, or lactating horses has not been evaluated. The effects of pergolide mesylate on breeding, pregnant, or lactating horses are not known; however, the pharmacologic action of pergolide mesylate suggests that it may interfere with reproductive functions such as lactation. PRASCEND is approximately 90% associated with plasma proteins. Use caution if administering PRASCEND with other drugs that affect protein binding. Dopamine antagonists, such as neuroleptics (phenothiazines, domperidone) or metoclopramide, ordinarily should not be administered concurrently with PRASCEND (a dopamine agonist) since these agents may diminish the effectiveness of PRASCEND. Keep PRASCEND in a secure location out of reach of dogs, cats, and other animals to prevent accidental ingestion or overdose. Dogs have eaten PRASCEND tablets that were placed in food intended for horses or dropped during administration of the tablets to the horses. Adverse reactions may occur if animals other than horses ingest PRASCEND tablets. PRASCEND is contraindicated in horses with hypersensitivity to pergolide mesylate or other ergot derivatives.
Pergolide
Administer PRASCEND (pergolide tablets) orally at a starting dose of 2 mcg/kg once daily. Dosage may be adjusted to effect, not to exceed 4 mcg/kg daily. The tablets are scored and the calculated dosage should be provided to the nearest one-half tablet increment. See prescribing information for more dosing instructions.
Store at 68F- 77 F (20-25 C). Excursions between 59 F- 86 F (15-30 C) are permitted.
PRASCEND has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant, or lactating animals. As PRASCEND is a dopamine agonist, it may interfere with reproductive hormones involved in these groups of animals.
Depending on the specific clinical sign, improvement may be observed beginning within 30 days and continue through 6 months of initial treatment.
Obtaining FDA approval is a strict and rigorous process. PRASCEND is manufactured according to the strict specifications set forth by the US Food & Drug Administration. PRASCEND is manufactured to provide a consistent, safe, and efficacious product.
PRASCEND can be hidden in an apple or treat. The tablet may be administered orally by dissolving in a small amount of water, with or without sweetener. Administer the liquid with a syringe or as a top-dressing on feed. After dissolving, the tablet should be given immediately. PRASCEND should not be crushed due to the potential for increased human exposure. See package insert for full prescribing information.
PRASCEND helps reduce the clinical signs of PPID and improve horses quality of life. Treatment with PRASCEND may cause loss of appetite. Most cases are mild.
Horses with PPID will also benefit from an overall excellent general health care along with individual nutrition recommendations from your veterinarian.
Signs of PPID vary widely and may be in the early or advanced stages. Often early clinical signs can go unrecognized. Below is a check list of both early and advanced signs of PPID. If you notice any of these signs in your horse, check with your veterinarian.
PPID may be seen in all breeds of horses including ponies. It also affects both male and female horses.
PPID is not just an old horse disease. In rare cases, it has been seen in horses as young as 5 years of age.
Your veterinarian will examine your horse and determine if your horse should be tested for PPID. A blood test is often performed to determine if your horse is positive for the disease.
Pergolide is considered the treatment of choice for PPID. PRASCEND is the most proven treatment available to control the clinical signs associated with PPID in horses. PRASCEND is contraindicated in horses with hypersensitivity to pergolide mesylate or other ergot derivatives.
No. There is currently no cure for PPID. It is a chronic, lifelong disease that requires daily medical treatment. However, treatment with PRASCEND can reduce clinical signs of the disease, improving the quality of life for the affected horse. PRASCEND has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant or lactating horses.
Bought this for my mare who was diagnosed with EMS as the vet reccommended. Within 2 weeks she was back to a regualr weight and healthier coat. She feels better and looks like her old self again. She is moving smoother and is no longer lethargic. This medicene is a godsend for anyone with a horse with EMS or other metabolic issue. Highly recommend!!
Need this for my horse with Cushings. Definitely you can see the difference she has a new coat and her nipples have stopped leaking. Getting it through Chewy was the easiest and was reasonably priced
Wonderful drug. Been on for 2 weeks-remarkable! TY
Chewy Pharmacy was easy to deal with. There customer assistance was very helpful.
The first time I ordered this I was able to order by the pills I needed, the second time it was in packs of 10, but came in the same blue pill container. Wonder why I can’t order by the pill but they do seem to be working, it just takes a while to get vet approval so order at least a week or two before you need them.
My first horse lived to be 32 years old and spent a good amount of time on pergoide, the liquid form of this drug. That was good for starting the horse on the drug for titration of doses which I did again with my now 16 year old second horse but when that quantity was exhausted I was glad to be able to switch to prascend, the pill form. They are small and packed well and horses don't seem to notice the dose.
Our equine vet prescribed Prascend approximately 4 yrs ago for our aging horse with Cushings. All along I've been buying through another on-line vet pharmacy. Decided to check with Chewy only to find the cost of it and another Rx significantly lower, and of course faster.
I have been using this medication for my senior horse for 2 years now. I like that I can save money with Chewy but it seems that Chewy doesn't understand how this medication is used. It is a lifelong treatment that would never be prescribed for just one tablet. They need to make whole boxes available. I hope this statement is seen by the persons making that kind of decision.
Excellent delivery and price. Great packaging...............................................,..........
My mare showed typical sounds of cushings so we did the test, placed her on the meds and within 5 days she started to show signs of improvement. Now about ordering from chewy vs the others, I love the ordering options of by the pill, not by the box of 30. It makes a lot more sense! They still come in the sheets of 10 (which chewy can edit for your order), but in a clear bag which I prefer! The boxes never survive the month for me. Also I can put the equioxx bottle in the baggie and keep all my old lady's meds together! Glad I found them on chewy.
