FAQ

Do Pork Chomps help maintain oral health?

Yes! When your dog chews on Pork Chomps, the chewing action scrapes away plaque, controls tartar buildup and helps stimulate gums. This diminishes bad breath, keeps teeth whiter and reduces the risk of potentially serious dental problems.

Are Pork Chomps safer than rawhide?

Made of baked pork skin, Pork Chomps are easy to digest. Dogs who chew Pork Chomps have a much lower risk of developing gastrointestinal problems than dogs who chew rawhide. Pork chomps also contain none of the harsh chemicals found in many rawhide chews.

Why aren’t Pork Chomps made in the United States?

We developed Pork Chomps after our extensive veterinary study affirmed pork skin to be a safe alternative to rawhide. When we looked at China we found answers that made sense for our product. China processes their pork skin in a unique way that specifically fits the Pork Chomps patented process. China continues to make high standards of quality a priority. Pork Chomps have been in the market since 2006. To ensure the highest quality standards Pork Chomps are manufactured in a state-of the-art facility built in 2013 that has been certified by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). GFSI is an international organization formed in 2000 to establish consistent regulations for human food production.

Why does Pork Chomps packaging include "wash hands before and after handling" in the instructions?

We suggest hand washing before and after all of our dog treat products. There isn't anything harmful on or in our products this is just a good hygienic practice. It is important to follow good kitchen hygiene practices when handling pet food, treats and chews, just as you would when you handle human food. Doing this helps keep pet foods, treats and chews from being contaminated with bacteria and other microorganisms from you, such as Salmonella, that can cause disease for your pet. Washing hands after also helps to prevent anyone becoming ill and possibly spreading the illness to others. It's a recommended good practice and in the best interest of you, your family and your pets.

How often can I give Pork Chomps to my dog?

The University of Illinois, a leading veterinary college, conducted a Digestibility Study of pork skin in 2012. The study provided in vitro results showing pork skin was 99.93% digested at the end of a 24-hour period. Since at the end of 24 hours Pork Chomps are almost fully digested, we feel comfortable recommending one chew per 24 hour period.

  • No good! Not recommended!

    By on

Bought these since they looked like a similar product I had bought for our dog recently. However, despite a "best used by" date far from expiration, they smelled really old and stale at the first time opening the bag. The paste "wrapped" around the core had crumbled off for the most part, and the dog also didn't care for the smell and taste, barely licking it before losing interest. Not sure how these could go bad, being dry and in a sealed bag, but they sure did.

  • Great Treats

My four dogs loved them, one of my little dogs actually chewed on it and then hide his for later so the other big dogs didn't get it.

  • No Rawhide for my dogs.

    By on

My Shepherd and my Doxie love Chomps! Both my dogs have choked on rawhide. I feel safe when I go to work and leave them with Chomps.

  • Not for my dogs

    By on

My three dogs (lab, lab-mix and mini dachshound) didn't care for these bones. They took a whiff and a lick then walked away. I gave them to my daughter for her two pitts, the pitts ate the bones.

  • great new treat

    By on

I was leery that they might not like it as it was not rawhide.. When I offered it to them they smelled it first and then took it easily and ate it real fast. They take it now easily and I am happy to have some relief from the rawhide.

  • Possible choking

    By on

Treats were soft and I was afraid of choking. My dog seemed to like it despite being very particular. She prefers Dingo treats that have meat on outside of rawhide. She won't eat rawhide.

  • Not my dog's favorite

    By on

I bought these treats for my dogs because it is better for them than raw hide but they ate a few of them and then after that they would just leave the treats lay on the floor and have nothing more to do with them.

  • Dogs love them

This size is the perfect size for our 35 pound dogs. We have one that chews it up too fast and one that takes too long, but they both love them.

I saw these on TV and bought them for my 1 yr old Shih Tzu...they are large for her but still gives her hours of chewing time for several days.

  • Best natural chew bone

    By on

Safer than a rawhide bone. My dog loves these and she has to give a bit of effort and concentration to eat it. Good diversion when bored.
