suitable for a rat?

This hamster playhouse is not large enough for a rat.
Will this work for dwarf hamsters?

The wire spacing on this cage measures 3/8 inches wide and is recommended for mice, hamsters and gerbils.

Happy Hamster

My hamster is in love with his cage! He is not depressed and likes to run around his cage all the time. He likes to climb and has so much room for his toys and houses.

Good cageeeee

it is the best cage for this price range...dwarf hamsters like it. If you want something a little more sturdy and easier to clean.. pay more.

Perfect cage

I would highly recommend this Hamster cage. It not just a cage, it's a hamster headquarter. Our little "Miss Mousie" loves it. She moves from one level to the next with ease and loves to run in the wheels. I looked at cages for a couple months, nothing came close to what I wanted. I am so glad Chew got this in. Thanks once again for having amazing items for all kinds of pets.

I don’t recommend this item

While it’s large for the price, it’s very flimsy. The shelves move and shift with even the weight of a gerbil. If using for a gerbil, please know that they will chew through every shelf, each ladder, and the house in a matter of weeks. My
