I have a large breed puppy that I am trying to switch dog foods. The normal puppy pro pac food has higher crude protein/fat/fiber. Why should I use the large breed if it has lower levels?
Answer by ChewyFeb 02, 2018
PRO PAC Large Breed Chicken Meal & Rice has lower Calcium and Phosphorus levels to support a slower growth rate which can help minimize common joint and bone problems found in large and giant breeds. This is also the reason why you see a lower Protein and Fat percentages compared to the Puppy Chicken Meal & Brown Rice formula.

I have a 6 1/2 month old maremma / Great Pyrenees puppy. She already weighs 96 pounds. She Eats the pro pac large breed puppy food. At what age do I switch her over to the pro pac adult food ? When switching from a puppy to adult food, do you still introduce it slowly if it's the same brand ?
Answer by ChewyJul 31, 2017
We recommend starting to switch the food at 12 months old and slowly transitioning the puppy to adult food just in case.

Hello, if it is specifically for large breeds, why do Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate not included in the ingredients? Thanks!
Answer by ChewyMar 27, 2018
This is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for growth gestation and lactation. This food has a balanced ratio of calcium and phosphorus to promote a steady growth rate, helping to avoid common joint and bones problems instead of using Glucosamine and Chondroitin. The large breed adult food does contain these ingredients for when your puppy is maturing into adulthood.

What's the difference between this bag and the purple bag for puppies ?
Answer by ChewyNov 01, 2017
This food is made specifically for large breed pups over 50 pounds, while the purple bag is not.

Wonderful high quality food for my Labrador.

I have been feeding ProPac Large Breed Puppy to my male Labrador Retriever since he was 9 weeks old, now 10 months. I wouldn’t feed him any other brand, this formula is top quality and everything a large puppy needs to sustain them. I’m great full he is growing a normal rate and won’t have joint issues as he gets older. When he turns a year we will be switching him over to the adult ProPac formula.

Highly Recommend Chewy

New to this company (a new puppy owner) this dog food was what the kennel was using, so I ordered it and it arrived within 3 day (superfast) and great quality of other products I have order thru Chewy....

Good ingredients

Breeder highly recommended this due to ingredients versus all other brands. Sadly, my puppy age 5 months (Great Pyrenees) has had nothing but severe diarrhoea when I feed this. He was gradually switched over and all was fine until it became I’m his sole dry food. Zero treats or people food so it’s definitely just the food. He’s also lost weight on this. He’s been to the Vet abs is in great health. Fed up with trying to find the best food.

Best Puppy Food for the Price

When I first brought home my standard poodle puppy at 8 weeks. I was feeding him Nutro. Nutro has decent puppy food recipes but they changed their formula. Once I learned that, I wanted to find a pet food that not only met the salt test (quality ingredients listed before salt) but was also affordable (like Nutro). I transitioned to Orijen which is high quality but surprisingly, a lot of their vegetables appear after salt on the ingredients list (plus it is super expensive and for an active standard poodle that will weigh 70 lbs as an adult, this can equate to a lot of money going to his food bill). I then looked into Earthborne (which has many vegetables and fruits before salt) BUT if I can afford to feed my puppy quality food for a cheaper price, I will. Pro Pac met the mark. My puppy (who is now almost 11 months) thrives on Pro Pac Ultimates Chicken Meal & Brown Rice Large Breed Puppy Dry Dog Food and I have more money in the bank so my best poodle buddy and I can go on more trips around the country together. He is an active, healthy, muscular male standard poodle that is living his best life and I couldn't ask for more.

Tastes good, no adverse reaction

I've been tasting a lot of food. My mom has bought different types of Large Breed puppy food because I am growing as fast as a Saint Bernard can! Some of the food she bought gave me stomach problems or I didn't like the taste. She found this and I like it very much, I have not had any stomach problems and I eat all of my food. Best of all, it doesn't take much to fill me up, at least not as much as some of those other foods she was having me try out. We are happy now. Sincerely, Griffyn

1st time user

We’ve been feeding Pro PAC to our 3 yr old pittie/lab/boxer for awhile now and decided to start our new boxer/bloodhound on it right away. She loves it. Great results, no upset stomachs or loose stools. Great food!

Smells putrid and gross

This is what the breeder had the puppies on. We purchased a bag to switch with and it smelled like garbage. After comparing with the breeders bag that's what it should smell like and after starting the switch to our veterinarian's recommended brand our pup would pick around this stuff.

Definitely Large bites

Our Bloodhound is growing so I moved up from the ProPac purple bag to this size. I wasn't expecting the nuggets to be so big. He seems to be doing ok with them. I will get thru this bag and see if it's a hit.
