Description

Proin Extended-Release is prescribed by your veterinarian to help control urinary incontinence in dogs due to urethral sphincter hypotonus, a weakening of the muscle in the urethra. It works by helping to tighten the bladder and urethral muscles to help prevent urine leaking and accidents. With all the same efficacy as Proin Chewable Tablets, these patented extended-release tablets are designed for once-a-day dosing and deliver a controlled release mechanism for steady absorption.

Proudly sourced directly from the manufacturer or their approved distributor. Guaranteed genuine and backed by the manufacturer.

Uses

For the control of urinary incontinence due to urethral sphincter hypotonus in dogs.

Possible Side Effects

The following signs have been reported more often with a dose higher than the recommended dosage: agitation, arrhythmia, bradycardia, erythema, fever, hypersalivation, hypertension, lethargy, mydriasis, panting, piloerection, tachycardia, tremor, and urinary retention.

Drug & Food Interactions

No serious food and drug interactions have been reported.

Precautions

Proin ER may mask signs of incontinence due to urinary tract infection. Proin ER is not effective in dogs with incontinence due to neurologic disease or malformations. Proin ER may cause hypertension; therefore, use with caution in dogs with pre-existing heart disease, hypertension, liver disease, kidney insufficiency, diabetes, glaucoma, and conditions with a predilection for hypertension. Use with caution in dogs receiving sympathomimetic drugs, tricyclic antidepressants, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors as increased toxicity may result. Use with caution in dogs administered halogenated gaseous anesthetics as this may increase the risk of cardiac arrhythmias. A laboratory study on human blood revealed that phenylpropanolamine (PPA) used in conjunction with aspirin may potentiate decreased platelet aggregation. Proin ER may cause increased thirst; therefore, provide dogs with ample fresh water. The safe use of Proin ER has not been evaluated in dogs that are intended for breeding, or that are pregnant or lactating. Store Proin ER out of reach of dogs and other pets in a secured location. Instances of dogs chewing through closed bottles of Proin ER and eating the bottle’s contents have been reported. If accidental exposure occurs, consult a veterinarian and notify Pegasus Laboratories (1-800-874-9764)

Instructions
Recommended Dosage

The recommended dosage is 2 to 4 mg/kg (0.9 to 1.8 mg/lb) of body weight once daily. Do not split or crush tablets. Dogs weighing less than 10 pounds cannot be safely dosed because tablet administration would result in a dose over 4 mg/kg. Dogs may transition from Proin Chewable Tablets to Proin ER without a break in administration. However, do not alternate Proin ER with Proin Chewable Tablets because the effectiveness and safety of interchangeable use have not been evaluated.

Storage Instructions

Store at controlled room temperature 68-77°F, excursions permitted between 59-104°F.

FAQ

Why Proin ER?

  • Convenient - Given with food, a single dose per day simplifies treatment.

  • Innovative - Patented release technology provides controlled release that ensures steady absorption.

  • Easy to Prescribe - Four dosing strengths based on body weight to provide simplicity.

What are the common clinical signs of urinary incontinence in dogs?

  • Dripping or leaking urine

  • Excessive licking of the genital area

  • Red and irritated skin around the genital area

  • Needing to go more frequently than normal

  • Wetting the bed or sleeping area

  • Urinating inappropriately in the house

Fortunately, while frustrating at first, canine urinary incontinence may be controlled with Proin ER, a safe and effective FDA-approved once-a-day tablet that works by increasing urethral sphincter tone to help prevent urinary accidents.

    Spayed incontinence

By Cathy on Aug 3, 2021

Our poor girl started wetting her bed when she just turned 3 yrs. She’s a beautiful black/tan pure German Shepherd rescue and would wake up suddenly when she peed during a nap. Since we only had male dogs we weren’t prepared for this, yet we love her too much, not to do anything to help her. We could read in her eyes that she didn’t like it either and she knows she’s supposed to go outside. We still would have had her spayed even if we had known this could happen. All of our dogs have been ‘fixed.’ As much as I love puppies, we don’t breed our dogs.

Apprehensive at first. Been using Proin for 10 years.

By YLab on Jul 15, 2021

10 years ago our yellow Lab started leaking urine at just 1 year old. It was dog diapers, kept outside 24 hrs a day, or Proin. I read many scary reviews about people's dogs dying from the drug. Well, it worked perfectly for our dog. She's 11 1/2 now and as soon as the Proin ER came out we started it. No leakage ever or problem with Proin or Proin ER. I recommend it.

Same medication that my vet prescribes

By Ldropps on Sep 7, 2021

This is the same medication that my vet prescribes only cheaper. I'm very happy to save some money while knowing that my little one is getting what he needs.

By dessertno on Aug 10, 2021

works great, but the way you order is something to be desired! it says '1 tablet, and if you don't pay real close attention, then you get only one pill period in the bottle. duh. why don't you fix this?

    Hmmmmmmmm?

By Jfdogowner on Jul 16, 2021

I was surprised the pills didn’t come in the pictured container. It came in a generic plastic pill bottle. I have to believe it’s the real thing. I’ve also ordered Percortin, this has to be the real thing. My dogs life depends on it.

My girl was on this as the original Proin wasn’t available. It did nothing for her incontinence. Thank God the original is now available, 5 straight dry nights so far

    very pleased.

By Cookie on Jul 22, 2021

It was easy to have you contact my vet office for the prescription and it arrived quickly. Hate that my 5 year old baby has to be on medication but it is working for her spay incontinence.

    Great Service!

By Nrod on Jul 12, 2021

Our vet was out of my dog’s prescription and recommended going through Chewy. Signing up was quick and easy. Chewy contacted my vet to verify the prescription and we had her meds in a couple of days.

Proin med for urinary incontinence in my dog

By Emmy on Jul 12, 2021

Just started using this med for my dog. So far it has helped. She still occasionally leaks urine during night but much better than before. Fast service by Chewy and a third cheaper than my vet.
