The following signs have been reported more often with a dose higher than the recommended dosage: agitation, arrhythmia, bradycardia, erythema, fever, hypersalivation, hypertension, lethargy, mydriasis, panting, piloerection, tachycardia, tremor, and urinary retention.
No serious food and drug interactions have been reported.
Proin ER may mask signs of incontinence due to urinary tract infection. Proin ER is not effective in dogs with incontinence due to neurologic disease or malformations. Proin ER may cause hypertension; therefore, use with caution in dogs with pre-existing heart disease, hypertension, liver disease, kidney insufficiency, diabetes, glaucoma, and conditions with a predilection for hypertension. Use with caution in dogs receiving sympathomimetic drugs, tricyclic antidepressants, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors as increased toxicity may result. Use with caution in dogs administered halogenated gaseous anesthetics as this may increase the risk of cardiac arrhythmias. A laboratory study on human blood revealed that phenylpropanolamine (PPA) used in conjunction with aspirin may potentiate decreased platelet aggregation. Proin ER may cause increased thirst; therefore, provide dogs with ample fresh water. The safe use of Proin ER has not been evaluated in dogs that are intended for breeding, or that are pregnant or lactating.
Store Proin ER out of reach of dogs and other pets in a secured location. Instances of dogs chewing through closed bottles of Proin ER and eating the bottle’s contents have been reported. If accidental exposure occurs, consult a veterinarian and notify Pegasus Laboratories (1-800-874-9764)
This item cannot be shipped to Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Oregon, and West Virginia.
Proin ER tablets contain 18, 38, 74 or 145 mg phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride per tablet.
The recommended dosage is 2 to 4 mg/kg (0.9 to 1.8 mg/lb) of body weight once daily. Do not split or crush tablets. Dogs weighing less than 10 pounds cannot be safely dosed because tablet administration would result in a dose over 4 mg/kg. Dogs may transition from Proin Chewable Tablets to Proin ER without a break in administration. However, do not alternate Proin ER with Proin Chewable Tablets because the effectiveness and safety of interchangeable use have not been evaluated.
Store at controlled room temperature 68-77°F, excursions permitted between 59-104°F.
Convenient - Given with food, a single dose per day simplifies treatment.
Innovative - Patented release technology provides controlled release that ensures steady absorption.

Fortunately, while frustrating at first, canine urinary incontinence may be controlled with Proin ER, a safe and effective FDA-approved once-a-day tablet that works by increasing urethral sphincter tone to help prevent urinary accidents.
These Proin Extended-Release Tablets have the same efficacy as Proin Chewable Tablets.
I’m sure this medicine works well for some dogs, but not mine. It was recommended by my vet for new onset urinary incontinence. I have a 14 year old mini aussie (spayed female). I gave it to her three evenings in a row and every evening after I gave it with dinner, she became restless. She just panted and paced and wouldn’t lay down. Normally, all she does is lay around. She seemed stressed and uncomfortable. I stopped giving it to her. And it didn’t help the incontinence at all, but again, only gave it for three days.
Please do your research and speak to your vet before giving this. I gave one dose to my dog over the weekend and we almost lost her. Within 2 hours, we were at the emergency clinic. The emergency vet said this is a ongoing issue with this medication and has killed several dogs.
My vet placed my 14 year old dog one Proin ER when she was showing signs of incontinence. She had gotten to the point where when she was sound asleep at night she would urinate & not realize it. We have been on Proin ER for a month & a half now & we've only had maybe one small accident!! i would definitely talk to your vet is your dog is having issues.
My three year old female Auzziedoodle was having incontinence issues which is usually a problem for much older dogs. My vet prescribed Proin ER and she has been on it for three months now with no issues. I am so thankful this product works and I don't have to worry especially at night about her.
My dog is very healthy since starting this medication she has has diarrhea that has gotten worse to uncontrollable and watery she has also been vomiting she is still eating and drinking I have been giving Imodium and ani diarrhea medication do not recommend this medication, knowing it is killed other animals please do your research before using after my dog or showing these symptoms I started researching I wish I would never have given this medication to my dog
This fixed my spade dogs aging problem! Do this for your dog!!!! Skip the diapers and hate!
i bought Proin ER 145 for a 90 lb bully mix who has nocturnal incontinence & it works about 80% of the time
I'm saving about $15 per month buying from Chewy vs our veterinary office!
Before you give your dogs this medicine especially if they are older make sure you know what all side effects come with it and what to watch for. My GSD only took the correct dosage for maybe 3 weeks or so and now she is dead. I did not do my due diligence in recognizing that she was in distress from the medicine and was showing symptoms for 2 days and I just thought she was hot. She was panting really bad. So please for the sake of your babies don't do like I did.
Excellent product.
