What about bacteria? Does freeze drying kill bacteria?
Answer by ChewyJul 17, 2020
PureBites use a combination of proprietary processing methods as pathogen kill steps (including HPP) to ensure the safety of their products as well as adherence to regulatory requirements under USDA and FDA that govern our manufacturing processes. In addition, PureBites also test each batch multiple times during the process for microorganisms including Salmonella, E.coli and Listeria and never allow their treats to be shipped out unless they receive a negative test.

Is the beef liver sourced in the U.S.?
Answer by ChewyDec 01, 2019
These treats are sourced from and made in the United States.

Is the liver cooked and then freeze dried or raw freeze dried
Answer by ChewySep 27, 2018
Freeze dried is raw, not cooked. There is no heat applied. The freezers are 85 degrees below zero as well as pressurized and that extracts the moisture from the product. The benefit to raw freeze dried is the food retains all of the nutrition because none of it is cooked away. In addition, no synthe tic preservatives because the absence of moisture will prevent bacteria growth.

What is the fresh liver equivalent to these freeze dried treats? For example, one ounce of freeze dried liver equals three ounces of fresh liver.
Answer by ChewySep 09, 2019
A 2 ounce bag of the PureBites Beef Liver Freeze-Dried Raw Dog Treats has approximately 6.6 ounces of raw beef liver per bag.

amazing value!

I did intensive research before purchasing an organ meat product for my cats to figure out what would be the most cost effective and landed on this product. You’re not supposed to be regularly feeding these to your cats and not that much so I only do one chunk about every other meal and it comes with a lot. This is the only beef liver product they’ve actually enjoyed eating as I’ve bought from other brands and they literally wouldn’t eat their food with it included. I’ll be repurchasing!

cut much smaller than usual

This is one of the few treats my dog will eat. unfortunately, the last few bags we have gotten they have been cut very small. like training treat size. I end up having to give her 2 or 3 to equal one treat, which is annoying.

Love the pure bites

We have purchased these for many years. They were the first treat our first Havanese ever had. He passed away at 13 years. We got a couple bags not up to snuff but hope new one is back to normal.

Great for Small Size Dogs

Like other reviews said the size per treat runs smaller and there’s lots of dust. That said, the dust is great as a nutritional food topper for meals and size works for 26lbs dog. We switched to freeze-dried treats cause he’s food sensitive and we haven’t noticed any problems yet.

Dog Heaven

My standard poodle absolutely loves these low calorie treats. I took a bag to her training facility and every dog liked them. The bits are crunchy and have no odor.

This item is a hit

We believe our dog has a chicken allergy (testing now) and I chose this treat to replace her former treats while we test. It's literally one ingredient and she LOVES it. The price seems high but it's lasting a good while. The package is light because it's dried.

Found plastic stuck to some of the treats!

I found so plastic stuck to some of the treats and also the treats seem to get stuck in my dogs teeth too. Not impressed.

** Caution....

Word of caution regarding these. I've been buying these for many months. In fact, I just ordered two more bags. The treats are fantastic (at least my dog absolutely loves them)...but I keep finding pieces of plastic mixed in with the treats. Please review the attached photo. The torn pieces of blue plastic give the impression the treats are made by another company, and this company is opening the bags upon arrival and inserting the treats into their own labeled bags. I don't have a problem with that. What I have a problem with is the plastic. They need better quality control (how about using a box cutter to open the bags instead of ripping them open by hand??). If my dog were to eat one of those bits of plastic, it could be surgery time (or worse). I normally grab a handful of treats and give them to my GSD, but no more. I am inspecting every treat I pull out to make sure my dog isn't eating plastic. If I find plastic in these next two bags, I'll switch to another beef liver product. Other than that issue, this product is wonderful. I give whole treats to my dog, and I also blend handfuls of them into a powder and mix it in with his home cooked meals. A+ for the product itself, and an F for the quality control folks in the packaging department.
