We recommend that you keep your dog in ideal body condition and not allow your dog to become overweight. The exact amount of food your dog requires will need to be adjusted according to age, activity and environment. But a good place to start is with these guidelines for an average, active, adult dog fed once daily. Provide adequate fresh water in a clean container daily.
Please allow 7-10 days to ease the transition from your dog's current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Pro Plan until you're feeding Pro Plan exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets.

Specialized Nutrition for Unique Needs
High-quality protein like real chicken, lamb or salmon is the #1 ingredient in all dry formulas. Purina Pro Plan is formulated with key nutrients to help support specific needs based on life stage, lifestyle, breed size or other unique needs.

Life-Stage Formulas
Puppy formulas are formulated with a growing dog in mind, with DHA for brain and vision development, and antioxidants to help nourish developing immune systems. Adult formulas are formulated with key nutrients to support specific needs, plus they contain vitamin A and linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid, for a healthy skin and coat.
Breed-Size Formulas
Dogs of different sizes have different needs, and their breed size-specific formulas help to address them. Toy and Small Breed formulas offer nutrient-dense, size-appropriate kibble while the Large and Giant Breed formulas are specially formulated to meet the needs of bigger dogs.

Sensitive Skin & Stomach Formula
This specialized formula is great for dogs who may experience skin and/or stomach sensitivity. The dry formula is made with real salmon as the #1 ingredient and also contains easily digestible rice and oatmeal plus omega fatty acids and zinc.
Weight Management Formulas
For adult dogs who are overweight or less active, the Weight Management formulas offer an optimal protein-to-fat ratio to help them be their best.

Great Pyrenees x Anatolian Shepherd
By Timber on Dec 22, 2020
My 150lb, 1.5-year-old Great Pyrenees x Anatolian Shepherd, Timber. This is the best food I have tried for him, our cat eats the Purina Pro Plan Kitten Shredded Blend Chicken & Rice Formula Dry Cat Food which he loves. This food has done wonders for my giant breed dog, but I wish this food would come in other options. First, I wish it would come in a larger bag the 34lb because the bag doesn't last the whole month like I wish it would. Second, I really wish this would come in a Shredded Blend option. Timber is a picky eater and prefers to eat it mixed with wet food or (un-salted) chicken broth. I think that he would prefer the food in a Shredded Blend because our other pets have enjoyed the My 150lb, 1.5-year-old Great Pyrenees x Anatolian Shepherd, Timber. I tried quite a few other large breeds and giant breed food for him, he seems to have a sensitive stomach, and all the other foods he tried have upset his stomach. He has been eating this food for many months now. The vet recommended trying this food and it has been great food and a good price! I just simply wish that the giant breed foods would get some of the options that other sized dogs or cats get. … more

Dane/Mastiff does great on this
By Daniffowner on Nov 19, 2020
We have our nearly 8 month old Dane/Mastiff pup on this, and he is growing PERFECTLY. Shiny coat, lots of energy, solid poop. He is around 100 lbs right now and should mature to 160 or so when full grown. He does have some pretty nasty gas, but otherwise everything is great, so we will keep him on it. We were warned by the breeder to get him off puppy food at 4 months due to the giant breeds tendency to things like pano.....we researched and this appeared to be a great option, so far we are very satisfied! He eats 6-9 cups a day right now, depending on activity level, broken into 2-3 feedings. My only objection is the 34 lb bag. Healthier foods
By Carter on Jan 12, 2021
All three of my dogs love this food. They are free fed so they will keep returning to the bowl till it is gone. Carter is a rescue dog and she was very thin when we got her just a month ago. She has already gained to normal weight for her and has experienced no problems with this food.

Great for my Big pup
By Pandora on Jan 7, 2021
I had my GSD on the Pro Plan large breed puppy and just switched over to this when he turned one as he is already a big boy at close to 100lbs. He took a week or so to get used to the new feed once we weaned off the old but now he gobbles it up!

My vet recommended this food and had me change from what I was using. In a very short time her coat was so beautiful and her whole energy level changed for the better

The best food for our Saint Bernard!
By jwathas on Sep 25, 2020
We have a 4-1/2-year-old rough coat Saint Bernard who has been eating the Pro Plan Giant Breed formula ever since we transitioned him off of puppy food when he was around 6-8 months old. He is extremely fit, healthy, and has an amazing coat on this food. Our vet can't stop praising us for what amazing condition he is in. She said that far too often she sees Saints and Newfoundlands who are 200+ pounds and they die by the time they are 4 or 5 years old, but our boy, Bruin, is a fit and lean 168 pounds and we are able to maintain him at that weight on about 5-6 cups of this food per day. He gets salmon oil and cold-pressed, organic coconut oil daily as well. Pro Plan is the only brand of food that we have fed our dogs for the past 15 years. It is tried and true and has many decades of scientific research and proven results behind it. I don't trust any of brand of kibble like I do Pro Plan. It has always provided our dogs with great longevity and overall excellent health. … more

Not the best available
By Hello on Nov 1, 2020
Our Bernese mountain dog loves pro plan, however, when we started feeding him the Giant breed specific food he refused to eat. He loves the pro plan sensitive stomach, but will not eat this particular food.

So Happy We Switched
By Heather on Sep 9, 2020
We love the Pro Plan Focus. Zeus has allergies and before knowing what caused them we switched his food twice. The salmon formula was so gentile in his stomach it made switching very easy. After a few weeks on that food we noticed his coat was very soft and healthy. With that being his 4th food and allergies still persisted we had him tested and found the allergies are environmental so we switched to the chicken and he loves it. The large pieces make him chew his food more so he doesn’t eat so fast and his breath isn’t as stinky.

Great for giant mouths
By BLeo on Oct 2, 2020
My young Leonberger male seems to lose smaller kibbles in his mouth, so we transitioned from Large breed puppy to this kibble at age 14 months, he loves it and doesn't choke on it like he did on tiny kibbles. Love the huge kibble size and so does he.
