We recommend that you keep your dog in ideal body condition and not allow your dog to become overweight. The exact amount of food your dog requires will need to be adjusted according to age, activity and environment. But a good place to start is with these guidelines for an average, active, adult dog fed once daily. Provide adequate fresh water in a clean container daily.
Please allow 7-10 days to ease the transition from your dog's current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Pro Plan until you're feeding Pro Plan exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets.

My last bag caused serious stomach upset out of the blue. I ordered a smaller bag hoping it was just the previous bag being off, but nope. Both bags were my first receiving the newer recipe. They’re phasing out probiotics in all the sensitive skin and stomach formulas, which has caused my 1-2 poops a day dog to become a 5-6 poops a day dog. Considering it is a formula for sensitive skin *and* stomach, the recipe change is a huge blunder. This was the first time I feel I’d had both the skin issues and stomach issues under control, so I’m very disappointed in these changes, all the while they hike the bags price. I’ll be swapping foods, and highly recommend others do the same and just supplement their own probiotics if they can’t find a sensitive skin/stomach formula that works. Listen to the recent reviews on this, not the older ones prior to the recipe change.
My dog has been eating this food for years with no issues then suddenly started throwing up for a week straight. The vet ran tests for ear infections and blood work and even suggested getting X-rays to see why he was getting so sick. After getting perfect bloodwork back, I decided to check the reviews on his food and sure enough there are many others in the exact same situation. The vet switched him to the Royal Canin gastro low fat dry food and his vomiting stopped. 2 vet visits and over $600 in vet bills just to be told it was his food. I feel so bad for buying this food and feeding it to my poor dog. I thought I was buying a good quality product but will be avoiding Purina from now on. The vet said it looks like an allergic reaction, which is sad since this is the sensitive skin and stomach formula. It is clear Purina has changed their formula and it is making dogs ill. Avoid at all costs.
I just want to add to the negative reviews so people know it's not just a few complainers. I've fed both my sheepadoodles this formula for years but after starting the last bag they both became very sick. Luckily, it was both dogs so it only took a day or two of extreme vomiting to figure out the cause. As soon as I changed food they were both better. On the positive side, Chewy is absolutely amazing when customers have issues. I do not recommend this particular dog food and haven't found the best replacement yet but I do recommend buying from Chewy.
We've been feeding this food for 5 years to my goldendoodle. The last 2 bags of it have made him sicker and sicker! He is throwing up, lethargic, not wanting to eat and shedding so much. I took him to an Urgent Care Vet and they did a lot of blood work which was all normal so said to give him a Prilosec every night for acid reflux and see if that helps. He still didn't want to eat. I'm so glad I found this info that it's the food that's making him sick! I changed to high quality, raw freeze dried food. He loves it and starting eating from the first bowl full. The PPP should be recalled!!!
We’ve been battling stomach problems for months with my oldest girl who is 15. Numerous vet visits & prescriptions later it was this food making her sick. It was recommended by my vet but after reading all the recent reviews I started questioning whether this was the problem.BINGO!! I feel so bad for my girl. Shes been miserable. We switched to a different brand of food & she’s feeling soooo much better already. Chewy has been amazing throughout all this & refunded my money immediately. Unfortunately I can’t in good conscience donate this food so into the dumpster it goes.
We have used the same food for over a year and the last 3 weeks our dog has had bad bad diarrhea on and off. The diarrhea would go away the second we put him on cooked turkey and rice/ bland food. I am so glad we read these reviews because we were just going to replace the bag! Not the same food it was before!! Shame! We are switching to open farm salmonon a recommendation from a friend whose sensitive tummy dogs thrive on it.
I’m getting ready to order purina pro plan again but with so many awful reviews but more so make all those poor dogs so sick I won’t go near it now! How can you keep selling it seeing all this happening from this food! I’m so disappointed in chewy after this! Stop selling it for goodness sakes! Would not recommend now and I must find another good that won’t sicken my three dogs! I just can’t get over you’re still selling it! Why would you do this?
I had used this food for the past 5 years with my Aussie who has both skin and stomach issues. He experienced vomiting and diarrhea, which did not clear up quickly, resulting in a vet visit because of concern that it was something serious. The vet could not even determine what was wrong, and advised us to go to emergency vet if it continued. It wasn’t until later after coming across a Tiktok about this food that I put together the timeline of a new bag of food being blended in with his previous bag. I am absolutely floored that Purina 1. removed probiotics from a sensitive skin and stomach food (aka dogs on this food need the probiotics + salmon formula for their skin or tummy issues…) 2. did not notify or provide any update on product descriptions letting consumers know about the change. I found out only from a Tiktok from a random creator! Instead, hundreds, if not thousands of dogs have gotten sick and racked up costly vet bills! It seems that other things in the formula changed besides the probiotic removal so have such a significant effect on so many dogs, and causing vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding, etc. 3. Has not pulled this from the market considering how many pets it has made sick. Beyond disgusting and shows how much they actually care about the health of animals vs turning a profit (oh, and I should mention that the price is the same or higher for inferior food that doesn’t have probiotic!) We switched to Hills & fortunately have not had issues.
Both my dogs like this food. After recovering from the Victor salmonella recalled food we chose the Purina food. One dog has a very sensitive tummy, he is 4 years old, he has always had way to soft poos. This has been an ongoing issue. This food and the pro biotics from Purina has made the chore of poo pick up soooo much better. Instead of cow pie poos it is now looking like regular dog poos. I can only say YEA!!!
My three adult dogs have been eating victor food for 6 years. They had a recall, and I had to find something that was sensitive for bellies and skin. I used to feed them separate, but they all end up eating eachothers food so we feed just one kind for all. They have been eating this, and loving it! I have a black lab, a shihpoo and an American bully. No diarrhea, less itching and happy doggies !
