I've been using this food for about a year with great success until the last three bags I've purchased. The first one had visible cat food (friskies) mixed in with it. Chewy was nice and sent me a new bag that must have been from a different batch because my dog ate it fine. However, these last two bags he has refused to eat. He lays down next to his bowl and wont touch it. The wet food seems fine. I think they made a change recently and I wouldn't recommend this food anymore.
Good for Diabetic Dogs
My 12.5 year old Lab was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago. The vet recommended a very expensive food with a lot of fillers, plus an insulin that was very expensive. I quickly took her to a diabetic specialist who recommended Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind Adult 7+ and a different insulin. She has done beautifully with this food and with insulin half the price of the kind first given. She developed a sarcoma two years ago, and I was afraid her life span was going to end very soon. She continues to do well, and I attribute much of her well-being to this food. I just wish it was not out-of-stock so frequently!
Highly recommend for larger older dogs
I've used this food for my 10 year old hound for about 4 months now and I absolutely love it! I've really noticed a difference not only in his overall cognition and alertness but also his energy. He used to sleep the day away and had a lot of trouble using his back legs to walk around. Now, he's running around with my 1 year old dog like he's a young boy again! He's still his old man self but this food has definitely improved how he's feeling. It's wonderful to finally see him feeling better, I would recommend this food for any older dog who is dealing with the mental and physical afflictions of aging.
Purina Dry Dog Food and gift
Very good! See above: dog's name is Daisy Thank you also for the adorable painting of Daisy from a photo! I have it on display.
Best change of senior food ever. Vet recommended and will never change back to no grain. My girls are back to energetic puppies again but are 10 yrs old. You would never guess though.
Both love it!
I specifically bought this food for my 15 year old Westie who is starting to have Canine Dementia -- lots of wandering, especially at night, being afraid of things, etc My Vet recommended this for her along with medication. I also have a 9 year old Pekingese who is eating it also.
Latch the door now
Our 13 yr old Brittany Spaniel/Golden Retriever mix had been getting sluggish. He had always been an active dog so our vet recommended Purina Bright Minds. It really made a noticeable diffference and sometimes we see him doing things he hadn't done in years! We had given up trying to get him to nose doors open. Well, he does it now and is quite proud of himself! If we want privacy in the bathroom, we have to be sure to completely close the door!
excellent food for my dogs! I have two who are 9 and 8 years old and since they started eating this food they have changed a lot, they don't seem the age they are today, they have a lot of energy and desire to play like when they were young. . and it shows a lot how their minds change, I am very happy to have bought this food for my little furry ones.
Good switch from discontinued (?) dog food
Dogs were on Purina mature formula, but it was getting hard to find. Switched to this and they both like it. I like that there aren't different flavored nuggets, because previously my terrier would pick out his favorite nugget and leave the others for the aussie to eat (LOL).
I've spent the better part of the last year searching for a new food for my cockers (13, 10, and 6) and so far this seems to be the winner. I originally tried the Purina veterinary diet in order to improve loose stools/gas. Unfortunately, that food did not end up working out for us but it seemed like there was some improvement on the Purina brand. This is the third different Purina formula we have tried and it's given the best results so far. All 3 of my dogs seem to enjoy the taste and the size works great to use when training or to put in their various enrichment toys for feeding. Additionally, stools are as good as they've ever been and there has been no gas on this formula. I can't really speak to the bright mind benefits as none of my dogs were having issues. But, all 3 are bright, alert, and happy to be involved in training and playing. If anything, my 13 year old girl is demanding even more training than normal. She wants all her food via training or in a puzzle toy and she barks to demand all the turns at agility class with my other dogs.
