DO NOT FEED THIS TO YOUR DOGS! IT IS HORRIBLE! PLEASE READ! I have been feeding puppy purina pro plan chicken, and then lamb formula to my bernese mountain dog since we picked her up from the breeder. For the first few months, her poops were formed but very soft. We recently (and gradually) switched from the lamb version to this large breed salmon for sensitive stomachs. Since the switch, my berner has been having multiple bouts of diarrhea every time she has a bowel movement. She is normally very interested and excited about her food during meal times, but not for this version. It has progressed into her not even wanting to touch her food, and having to be encouraged to eat it. This morning, she left about half the food in the bowl and then vomited the purina back up twice after her breakfast. I am so discouraged with her food journey but more so extremely disappointed in the results with purina pro plan, ESPECIALLY with this salmon formula. Not to mention it’s not just GI issues, but there is a complete visible lack in quality of the food compared to the other versions of purina pro plan that we have tried. It is terrible and I will never feed it to her again or recommend it to anyone. We will be switching off of purina completely. If I could give this review 0 stars instead of 1, I would.
Our pup suffered from chronic diarrhea until we found this food. Bernese mountain dogs are known to have very sensitive stomaches and this was recommended by our vet as a possible solution. We are now going on two weeks of healthy bowel movements and we couldn’t be happier. Worked wonders for us!
About a month ago this food was hard to find locally but I never had an issue getting it from chewy. However, the last bag I purchased has caused so much irritability in my two dogs. Started with the Great Dane and then the poodle mix was having diarrhea. And I mean it was explosive. Spent three hours cleaning up the Danes accident in the house because he couldn’t stop it from it coming out. Been using this food for over a year with the poodle and never had an issue until now. I’m terrified to continue feeding it to them because of the amount of issues we’ve had since starting the new bag. It took me a few days to realize it was the food and they’ve been pulled off it completely until I can find another brand. I’ve loved it up to this point but I just can’t risk continuing my dogs to be uncomfortable in case it’s not just a bad bag and it’s an ingredient change.
We have been feeding this to our 8 month old Bernese Mountain dog since she was 3 months and we learned she was allergic to chicken. She loved this food!! We recently just ordered a bag on 07/05/2023 and our dog will not touch this food. At first we thought it was her taste buds changing but based on other reviews I am seeing a lot of dogs will not touch this food. I will be contacting chewy to see if there have been more complaints and what can be done for this. I am so sad, she loved this food. We even tried adding open farm bone broth and she still won’t go near it.
I really like Pro Plan sensitive skin and stomach not because my rottie puppy has either but because of the ingredients. No corn, wheat or soy. He does beautifully on it. Poops are firm and regular. His coat at 14 weeks is like glass. I also feed the adult formula to my older dog who also does great on it.
I recently purchased a bag of Purina pro plan salmon and rice for sensitive stomach and skin for my 1 year old golden, (from pets mart) and found LIVE WHITE WORMS IN THE BAG. I ended up throwing all the dog food away, got a full refund back and switched to Iams large breed puppy instead. The Purina pro plan was making my puppy itch more as well (when it's supposed to do the opposite) and it was too expensive.
I switched my GSD puppy to this from the chicken and rice formula after a few episodes of diarrhea and vomiting thinking she may have a sensitivity to chicken. I very slowly transitioned her to this over the course of 2 weeks. She continued to do well after being fully switched until I started to increase her food because she’s going through a growth spurt and is extra hungry. I’m not sure if I just did too much too fast but she threw up, had diarrhea and her stool is still loose a few days later. I had high hopes for this but unfortunately think I may need to switch her food again, at least until I get her stomach right again and then I may try to add this back into her diet.
I'm not big on Purina products, but figured I'd give this a try for my GSD puppy. He ended up scratching and biting at himself even worse after switching to this food. He also didn't seem to like it that much after the first few days of being on it. Also, I'm not sure if this formula has glucosamine & chondroitin. Will be weaning him off this and onto something else.
I’ve always been a big Pro Plan fan, we’ve fed it to our small breeds for over 15 years. When we got our Boxer puppy 2 years ago we immediately started him on this formula and he has done very well on it! Beautiful coat, his stools are firm and he’s had no stomach issues. He is very active and I appreciate that this food is high in protein and calories. We will use this formula again in the future when we bring home another large breed puppy.
My puppy couldn’t digest and had a hard time with different kinds of food until I tried this one. Ever since he started this food, he has been doing good and it really helped his digestive issues!
