My dogs just love the Proplan Chicken and rice, all 6 of them finally agree on this one. I like it because it has the probiotics in it. All my dogs and my 1 foster are all seniors. Then the 2 chiweenies are 2 yrs old and very picking. So it's very good that they all agree that they love the same food!
I just switched my dog from the Purina pro plan puppy to this adult bag and I thought I had just received a rotten bag because the food smelled spoiled/rotten/bad as soon as I opened it. Then, I saw lots of other reviews with the same issue and I’m starting to wonder if they did change the formula and it’s a manufacturing issue. Be careful, if you get a bag that smells like spoiled eggs/feces, return it immediately. I might have to switch brands after this.
We had our 7 yr old Rhodesian Ridgeback on Purina's smart blend, but because of her loose stools and having to add pumpkin in every meal to help firm them, we decided to try their Salmon. She hated it! We thought at first it was her kidneys failing her (she has kidney failure, but was loosing body mass so we had to put her back on regular food). She wasn't acting sick though and it was at the same time that we stopped gradually changing her to the new food, so we tried a small bag of this. It had the lowest protein count (I don't want to over tax her kidneys) and she absolutely loves it! No more kibble on the floor from picking through it. She licks the bowl clean & asks for more. She has a lot of energy again, something we haven't seen in a long time. Still too new to tell about the stools, but to see her so happy & energetic with this, I'll get pumpkin if we need it. I also like the it has a lot of essential nutrients in it. Anything to help her body.
I've fed three different kinds of Purina Proplan in the last 2 months and Proplan complete essentials shredded blend chicken & rice formula wins, hand down!! I've given my furkids a choice by putting several different foods in their dishes and they pick out the shredded blend chicken and eat it first. They prefer the "regular" size over the small bites. I'm feeding a 5 lb chihuahua, a 15 poodle, a 60 lb Sheltie/Aussie and a 70 lb German Shepherd. They all prefer the regular size food!
Once again CHEWY has come to my rescue and provided the absolute best service and assistance in recommending only the best quality food for my dog. I appreciate their honesty and professional knowledge of the products available. Keep up the great job and thanks again for being there !
I have been buying this food for my 2 dogs and my mother’s dog for many years. The last order smelled so bad opening opening that I almost vomited. I know the food can have varying smells depending on the manufacture warehouse since products could be sourced from different places. However, this smell was unbearable! Smelled like feces (farm animal feces to be precise), I don’t know if this is a storage issue or the manufacture changed suppliers for the raw product (the smell was coming from the food not the bag itself) After opening the 3 bags I ordered and a fourth one Chewy sent to me to test, they all smelled the same. I had 2 other people check and smell the bags for me as well and indeed it was confirmed they smelled like farm animal feces. I really wanted to give Purina another chance but after the 4th bag, I was done. I know have to find something new for my babies…let the research begin.
My 22 month old dog must be allergic to this food. She throws up every time she eats a couple pieces. I bought a 35 lb. bag that I have to send back. Very inconvenient due to weight. The last time I had a return they just told me to donate it to a shelter which I did.
I have used Purina ProPlan for my dogs for many years for all of my dogs and I tried the Lamb and Rice for my dog when she changed from puppy food. She wasn't impressed so I switched to this one and she loves it!
In my opinion, Chewy is the only vender that really cares for you pets and their needs. I would highly recommend them and give them 2 extremely high thumbs up. Chewy, thank you for caring. You guys are the bomb!
Stella has been eating this ProPlan formula for 2 years and it has been amazing. She started with tummy troubles the day I opened this bag. It went on for almost 2 weeks before I realized it could be the food. Went to a local pet store and bought a 6 lb bag of the same formula...her stomach was better within 12 hours. I just threw away $85 worth of dog food.
