We have 2 GSP's who are highly active and have been tricky to find food for. After a while my dog got use to the food . Took her a while to get use to the change. Then again my dog can be picky. My last order there was some damage to the bag. It was tore and some food came out. But I was able to save the food becuase it was inside the box. I have been using chewy for 2 years After a while my dog got use to the food . I originally purchased this after seeing how popular it is in all circles--conformation folk exalt its ability to put coat and muscle on a dog, working people credit it for giving their dogs the energy (and, once again, muscle) to work all day, and pet people are happy with it just for it's ability to make their picky dog eat. I was personally having difficulty putting weight on my German Shepherd Dog puppy (over a year, so I had no concerns of the Ca:Ph ratio at this point; I'm unsure if it's in-range for younger puppies), and was on somewhat of a budget having to feed 6+ cups a day. My puppy has now been on this food for several months and I have noticed a positive impact. His coat is shiny and soft (though still correct), and he maintains a healthy body condition on his 6 cups. The food agrees wonderfully with him, and his ears are clear of yeast overgrowth or anything to that degree. However, my older dog finds that the food is just about tolerated and that's it. He is a smaller terrier mix, so he is fed very little of the food, totaling a cup a day. While his muscles and coat are equally as good as the GSD's, something in the food doesn't work with him. He experiences higher levels of wax in his ears (which has never been a problem in the 4 years before he was on this food), and has a much higher tear stain production. I'm unwilling to completely give up on Pro-Plan due not only to its popularity, but because how well it has worked for my problem pup. I will likely be trying the Grain Free version the next time I purchase it and hope it helps with the problems my terrier is experiencing, but if I end up having to switch him off it completely chances are I will keep this in rotation for my GSD at minimum. Don't listen to the Purina- and corn-hate. If the food works for you, it works for you, and don't feel bad for that. … more

As a dog breeder, I've tried a few different brands of food. I try them out for awhile and I'm just never happy with them. One might contain peas which I want to avoid, the other makes their hair feel very brittle and looks dull. My major concern is always their poop. It's never consistent and often times runny. Not something I look forward to having to clean up after. Finally I bit the bullet and decided to try Purina full knowing that so many people are anti-Purina. It's been around forever though and that was what everyone fed back in the day. Now we have too many options. Their coats feel great, soft, and look vibrant. Poop is finally consistent, easy to clean up and dispose of. I can't believe As a dog breeder, I've tried a few different brands of food. I try them out for awhile and I'm just never happy with them. I've learned you need to look at how your dog does on a food versus reading all the ingredients. The results speak volumes. … more

  • Great for working dogs

    By on

This food is great for active working dogs and show dogs. It helps develop nice muscle, and keeps the skin and coat very healthy and shiny. Dogs look great in the ring on this food. Active working dogs do well with the high calorie content, and the great muscle development.

  • Very happy

I'm a new customer and enrolled in the auto ship. We're saving roughly $10 per bag, and without having to drive to town to hope they have our brand in stock. So far I'm very happy!

  • Highly recommend!

I feed this to my dog. He is very active and burns alot of calories. I had a hard time keeping weight on him without feeding him alot of food until I found this. Now I wont feed anything else! His coat stays so shiny and always has consistent bowl movements. This is the only food ive found that will keep up with him!
