My dog was recently diagnosed with Stage C congestive heart failure and his cardio vet recommended that he start Purina ProPlan CardioCare. My dog loves it and am hoping that it will help provide him the essentials that is needed for his condition, in addition to his medication.
My dog loves it but he'll eat anything. I was puzzled that the protein ratio is lower than what I used to feed my dog. We'll see over time if this food helps his heart condition.
Smells smoky, neither dog will eat this food. Even the cats that love dog food wont go near it.
Great quality food—I have no doubt. Dog’s not a big fan, though.
My vet recommended this for my aging westie mix, to slow the progression of her heart murmur. She was very enthusiastic about this being a good quality food, and I gladly made the change. Two months later, i still can't get my dog to eat the stuff. I've tried mixing with her old food, with broth, with different varieties of wet food, nothing works. She eats the pieces she likes and spits this kibble onto the floor. Wish I hadn't bought such a huge bag. Ask your vet for samples before investing in a large quantity.
Our dogs think this food is the best thing they have ever had. They chase us down at feeding time to get their bowls. Quite comically, even our cat wants it and will sneak attack a morsel while we are filling the dogs bowls. Great stuff !!!
We found out our dog has an enlarged heart and he was put on this food to help strengthen the muscles around his heart. His dry/hacking cough has improved dramatically and while we won't know until another x-ray is taken in 3 months if his heart muscles are strengthening, he seems to be doing so much better in the short time he has been on this food.
My Yorkie is finicky in taste about dry dog food but so far he has taken to it and is eating this cardioCare with no encouragement. I am happy to see that because he is so choosy about dog food.
Lulu has never accepted dry food, but she has been gobbling this Purina Cardio Care food like it is candy. We are amazed and happy that she likes it as she is in heart failure and we don't have much longer with her, according to her last echocardiogram. We are going out of our way to see that she gets whatever she likes so that her last days are as happy as possible, and it is good to see that she likes this new food.
She is on this CC due to her heartworm treatments. But she loves it
