Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
Day 7 | 0% | 100% |

The last few bags of this Purina Pro Plan Vet dry (HA hydrolyzed) formula I’ve received has arrived with too many crumb sized pieces in the bag. What you would normally see at the very bottom of an almost empty bag is now throughout. My cat starts leaving piles of the tiny pieces all around her food bowl because she can’t eat them. My last 2 bags in a row were like this. Usually I’d get one or two good ones in between a crumby one which is why I always forgot to leave a review about this issue.
One of my boys had the PU surgery. Poor boys has had issues since, it’s been over 6 months. Blood in his urine, he doesn’t feel good… few trips to our vet, and trying different things. As of 3 weeks ago, both boys are on the HA kibble and a wet food that’s also prescription. As of last Thursday they don’t get treats, until I can find a healthy alternative, but so far, since the foods been introduced, I feel there has been a positive change, and since the treats were removed, happy to report clear urine! They both seem to like the food, and if it helps them feel better, that’s all that matters to me. Now to find a treat that works with this prescription!!!
I had high hopes, but none of my cats will eat it. The kibble is small and round. And very light weight similar to Styrofoam bean bag balls. One cat tried it and coughed. I think it was so dry and light weight that he kind of choked. I tried spritzing it with water and they won't touch it. They eat the Hills ZD better.
I bought this food for my cat who has a sensitive stomach to go along with the Blue Buffalo which was a different flavor but still was the hydrolyzed protein. She seemed to like it so I ordered another bag on auto ship. After about a month of eating the first bag her dribbling feces and vomiting got worse and she walked around like she was in pain. I stopped feeding her this food and gave her the Royal Canin that I had left from months ago. After just a few days of being off the Purina HA she started improving and now her dribbling feces is nonexistent. I'm sorry I bought an extra bag of this food that I won't be using but it's too expensive to send it back. I'm just glad my cat is doing better. I won't be recommending this food to anyone.
My vet recommended we change my cat food due to stomach issues. Chewy makes the process of ordering prescription foods very easy. I simply chose the food my doctor recommended and Chewy obtained vet approval for me. The new food was in my home within a week. Thanks Chewy
Diet change due to increased vomiting/weight loss. Cats loved the food, BUT caused diarrhea, smelly fur & farting. Switched to Hill's z/d, more $ and cats not eating with as much excitement, but diarrhea has stopped.
I got this as a recommendation from my vet for my cat having digestion issues. This and the wet food was over $100. She eats this probably because she has to. She can’t stand the wet food. Won’t even touch it. So I think this is good but I can’t tell if she really likes it or if she eats it just because she’s hungry.
5 stars for both Chewy and for the product Chewy: Never disappoints! Excellent customer service, fast shipping, product exactly as described Purina ProPlan: This was prescribed by our vet to help with my cat's constant and excessive vomiting. I'm talking massive piles of liquid nastiness. Trial and error of prescription changes, ProPlan HA Hydrolyzed Protein (along with steroids) did the trick! He still pukes (he's a cat), but it's manageable, and his digestive issues are under control. He's gone from looking malnourished, to back to looking like a healthy 12 year old cat: Shiny coat and all!
Don't expect anything they send you via email to work. Promo codes should make the customer want to buy more. Not stop buying. Be honest with your customers and don't waste their time
My cat has this food prescribed for him but this last bag that we received had a bunch of crushed pebbles that made a mess when pouring. My cat didn't want to eat the crumbs. Idk what to do?
