what is the copper content in this food?
Answer by BizziJan 23, 2023
.44 mg per 100 calories

How much protein is in this food

How many cups are in a 25 lb bag?
Answer by ChewyFeb 08, 2018
There are 4 cups per pound of dry dog food making it 100 cups for the 25 pound bag.

Is this ok for puppies less than 6 months age
Answer by HereToHelpMay 18, 2023
Your vet should be able to answer this (you need a vet Rx anyway to purchase the food). My dog was placed on this diet at age 6 months by her vet. He said it was ok for her not to be on a “puppy” formula. This diet worked to address the chronic diarrhea issues we were dealing with!

Shihtzu Gizzy

After 4 different vet visits $3,400 in bills I took him to a specialist my dog Gizzy has IBD ....he needs low protein allergic to chicken & pork... he seems to be eating his dietary food but he isn't a fan of it... he will only eat dry food.. so if anyone can help me with ideas I'd truly appreciate it . THANK YOU

Chewy is the best

So this review is actually 2 parts- the food and then Chewy. The food- our dog Frank was diagnosed with PLE and severe IBD in the begging of this year after several emergency vet visits, a colonoscopy, and an endoscopy. Bottom line- he’s allergic to any animal protein. The Purina Pro Vegetarian diet has literally saved my dogs life- along with some other key immunosuppressive medications so his body can stop attacking his GI system. He loves the food- the look like the Kix cereal which I find hysterical. He’s excited to eat everyday, solid poops, and no PLE symptoms- fluid in his abdomen, weight loss, protein and vitamin B deficiency since steadily eating this diet. Couldn’t be happier. Chewy- I have to say, from the bottom of my heart, Chewy is the most incredible, reliable dog company I’ve ever dealt with. My husband and I were on vacation this past week with our dogs staying at our parents. We returned home to find that ants had entered into the area we keep the dog food- so disgusting- and managed to bite through the bag. There were ants all in Frank’s dog food. We had one last serving of food from the bag we packed for vacation and had to throw the rest of the bag out- probably close to $50 worth of food. Last night I ordered a new bag and the airtight containers (because never again) and was worried about how many days Frank would have to go without eating because our local vet doesn’t carry the food and local pet stores do not have it either as it is a prescription authorized diet. The food is already out for delivery this morning. Thank you, Chewy, you are life saving!

GI issues.

My pup has been on this food for a while but just a 2 weeks ago all the sudden the started throwing up bile early in the morning. Two morning back to back, it was just bile but I noticed it was red so I panicked. Turns out he’s GI was very upset and they found some small ulcers but he eats nothing but this food. I saw other people having the same issue, they already removed elemental… I really hope they continue to make quality products. It was hard to find a bag that fit my dogs lifestyle and it ain’t cheap.

Vegetarian Bird Dog

My Vizsla was having serious health issues and it was harming her liver. The vet put her on this diet strictly and she made a DRAMATIC recovery. She is happier and more energetic than she was years ago. I can't say for sure that it was this food that helped or her old food that hurt, but I'm hesitant to switch to any other food because she seems so much better now.

Made my dog sick

My dog has been on this food for a year without issue. We just received a new bag a week ago and since then he has developed gastro issues and has liquid diarrhea. He has slowly stopped eating the food. Thankfully I had wet dog food from another brand which he eats right up. $850 vet bill could not diagnosis the issue and now I see news that Purina changed their formula and other dogs are having the same issues. I've immediately stopped with this food and order another brand.

Dog loves this food

1st, highly recommend getting your dog tested for allergies. It's expensive, but you'll save more money because you won't waste it on purchases that won't help your dog. Trying to treat symptoms and not knowing the problem is a waste of the dog's health, comfort, time, and money. With that said, our pup is allergic to almost all food as she has aged. She LOVES this food and it agrees with her 100%. She was eating all of it 1st out of the bowl as we were transitioning her over. We are still in the 1st three months of adjustment, but just after a month her coat, skin, irritation, digestion, and overall health have improved drastically. I wouldn't wish allergies on any dog, but if you are in the unfortunate situation we are in as owners and you are looking for a great product, THIS IS IT.

Seriously Sick Dog

My Doberman initially ate the vegetarian. I subsequently switched him to the chicken. I had three bags in a row which made him so sick that I finally called the Purina company directly. They sent me a small bag of the vegetarian, so I switched him back to the vegetarian. He has lost weight, he vomits all the time and he is extremely lethargic and just not himself. He has such bad food allergies it's really difficult for me to find anything on the market that he can eat besides an HA diet. But definitely this particular product both the vegetarian and the chicken have caused him to be extremely sick. After 7-25 bags of both flavors I'm taking him off. I did report to Purina that one of the bags had odd looking chunks in it, chunks that were not in any of the previous bags I was able to give them the lot number but there was no reasoning behind the chunks. Despite being on ha my dog still takes apoquel, Cytopoint and Nextmune injections. It cost me approximately $300 a month. I love him but he still suffering there's got to be a better way.

Surprisingly Very Good!

I have an extremely picky senior chow mix, and she has very little desire to any type of dry dog food, even with food toppers, and this has resulted in a large weight loss. After various testing, it was determined she needed to have this special hydrolyzed protein diet which came in dry form only, I thought for sure she was not going to like it and would choose to starve herself. But to my surprise, she has enjoyed eating this food every day!

Saved my senior!

After many years of challenges with finding a food for my dog’s sensitive stomach including chicken and rice, her vet suggested this as an almost last resort. Her stomach is settled, she is happy and looking forward to meals. Yard clean up is now a breeze. Thank you Pro Plan and Chewy!

I wished we loved it

This was suggested by our vet for what we believe to be food allergies. To start, I am mixing this in small portions with her regular food until she gets used to it, but when I feed her, she literally picks out this food, leaves it all over the floor, and eats only her other food. I can't even get her to try one piece as a 'treat'. She was never what I would call a picky eater, until this...... At a loss now.
