Do prescriptions expire?

Yes. Your vet will tell us when your prescription will expire and how many refills we can send before they’d like you to check back in with them.

  • Initially, he gobbled it up

    By on

Our male kitty has begun his senior years into kidney disease. His numbers aren’t crazy but enough to start him on Purina NF canned cat food. He can be a picky eater but then he surprises me and he will gobble up his food. I was ecstatic to see him eat with enthusiasm this food but as the weeks progress he is shying away from it. He will eat it in time but I now have more waste when he doesn’t. Now I will mix it with just a little store canned food and he will eat. Oh well. Whatever it takes. I am thankful that there is a trusted product out there for him. I will get his labs repeated in a few more weeks. Respectfully, Jackie b

  • Arrived Damaged

My finicky cat likes this product however somewhat disappointed in the condition when it arrived. Most of the cans in the case were badly dented so I was concerned the seal may have been broken and the food may be spoiled. So far it seems to be Ok

  • Didn't like

    By on

Sad to say neither of my kitties would eat the Purina kidney function diet, even though only one of them actually needs it. I'll have to once again donate the case to a local shelter. I've also tried the Science Diet and Royal Canin kidney diet and none of them worked for my boys.

Even though my cat wouldn’t touch the canned food.. he loves the dry. I was VERY IMPRESSED with their 100% satisfaction guarantee. I will be receiving a credit on the purchase, and will be donating the cans to my local animal shelter!

  • Seeing a change

I was displaced by TS Harvey & living in a hotel room with 2 senior indoor cats for 8 months & 100 miles from home. It was a stressful time for all. About a month before we came back to our home, I noticed changes in the 17 yo. Shortly after we got back I took the boys for their yearly physical/rabies & requested blood work on the older cat. Results showed early stage kidney disease. My Vet recommended & gave me 2 cans of Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Rx NF food to try. I've fed him dry food his whole life & at times he could be finicky, typical cat. I was surprised he liked the Rx wet food, as well as his 14 yo brother. I researched the disease, treatment & the Rx food. Went back to Vet for further I was displaced by TS Harvey & living in a hotel room with 2 senior indoor cats for 8 months & 100 miles from home. • Cats love this!

    By on

I have 3 cats - one senior and two geriatric - with renal issues. All of them love both the wet and dry Purina prescription cat food. We had previously tried other well known renal prescription cat foods and not all of my cats would eat them. Purina hit the mark - all of my cats eat this one!

  • Prescription Cat Food

    By on

This item was a very easy purchase from Chewy. My vet recommended Purina Pro Plan NF Early Care cat food (a prescription pet food) for our geriatric cat but did not give me a written prescription. (I could order the food from our vet.) I decided to shop for the food at Chewy and found that a case of 24 cans was approximately $4.50 cheaper than purchasing through the vet. When I ordered the food, I filled out the vet information and Chewy contacted the vet to obtain the needed prescription. Easy to purchase and it arrived in about 2 days.

  • My cat loves it!

    By on

Cats are very picky eaters for sure. And they're all different in what they like. But I will say I recently switched my cat with kidney disease to this new wet food and he absolutely loves it! He will eat a whole can in a day. Previously, he would only have a few bites of other brands and then most of it would get wasted. Highly recommend if you haven't tried this yet! (As a note, when he was initially diagnosed a few years ago, I did try the older Purina NF Wet food that wasn't staged and he barely ate any of it. So give this a try even if that didn't work well.)

  • My vet recommended this formula over the other kidney care diets.

    By on

My cat isn't super crazy about this formula but he eats it with no complaints-- it just take him a little longer to eat, so I can tell it's not his favorite. We'll find out in a couple of months with a blood test if it's helping to keep his kidneys functioning. Fingers crossed!

  • Something Changed

    By on

Purina NF used to my my cat's absolute favorite food. Since they've changed things and split the NF line into an Early and Advanced formulas, he hasn't liked them as much. Not sure if that's him and his kidney disease, or if the food has really changed. The folks at Chewy though have taken good care of us during this trial and error period.
