Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

All I can say is “No go.”
By MadCod on Jan 29, 2021
My little cocker spaniel who wasn’t really so little anymore was prescribed this dog food. As much as I tried, he would not touch it. I tried it on his sister cocker spaniel and she would not touch it. I suppose that’s one way of getting them both to lose weight but it’s not my way. Consequently I’m going to attempt to return it to Chewy. Even at $85 a bag, my pups say “NO GO.”

Great weight loss food for dogs
By Kerry on Jan 11, 2021
Our vet recommended this food for our Chihuahua who needs to lose about four pounds. I had tried other brand diet foods that did not work. If you follow the guidelines, it works. She is supposed to lose one pound per month; her first weigh in at one month, one pound loss!!! It’s high fiber so no stool issues, and she loves the taste!!

Non Scale Victory
By Bella on Feb 21, 2020
Bella, my 12 year old golden doodle has been dealing with a thyroid issue, and got up to 85 lbs. Her energy was low, and she even walked daily for 30-60 minutes. Nothing was getting the weight off. A week after changing her over to Purina Pro Plan Overweight management, her energy improved 100 percent. She is keeping up with her 6 year old brother, and looking slimmer. Have not weighed yet, but very satisfied with her over all appearance, and energy.

Have not started feeding this to my Lab
By Ladybug on Mar 31, 2020
My girl is about 15 pounds overweight and this food was recommended to me to help her lose weight without starving her. She has been on Pro Plan her entire life and it is a brand that I trust. This is expensive, but if it helps her it will be worth every penny.

It really works! 23 lb weight loss
By Chelsea on Feb 16, 2020
My 9 year old golden retriever had gained a ton of weight for unknown reasons. Her thyroid was under active but 2+ years after being on medication for that, she was still 20lb overweight. We started using this food in sept 2019. In the first month, we didn’t notice any big changes. The holidays came and went and we noticed she looked thinner so 2/2020 (5 months after starting this diet), we took her in and she had lost 23 lbs and is at her ideal weight! I have to say this works!!!!

This food does work!
By Roxy on Dec 23, 2019
Roxy is a 10 year old boxer. She started at 92 lbs, and due to weight had a partial ACL tear that we were conservatively managing related to her age. She recovered, but then re-injured it. That's when we finally decided that she needed to lose some weight. Our vet recommended this food, and we are happy to say that after 1st month was down 5 lbs, the 2nd month another 5 lbs, and now after 6 months, she is down to 72 pounds and no longer limps. We went a little above the recommended feeding amounts because we didn't want her to feel hungry. Her food schedule consisted of the following: 1 cup of dry three times a day with 1 tablespoon of wet purina OM mixed with it, 1 light snacker (purina Roxy is a 10 year old boxer. I would recommend to always having fresh water available> I noticed that Roxy did begin to drink alot more water on this food (we ruled out all other medical conditions related to the polydipsia). Roxy is now a lighter, happier dog with so much more energy. … more
