Questions & Answers

One of my cats eats only wet food, but never drinks water. Answers to previous questions only address dry food feeding, so it is not clear whether this product is recommended for wet food feeding. Is it?
Answer by HeatherAug 08, 2022
While this product is probably most helpful for cats who mostly eat dry food, it can be helpful to cats on a predominantly wet diet, too. My cats eat mostly wet, and I've been using it as a mix-in to their wet. It's been helping them eat their food better while also providing hydration.

Creatinine down to 2.2 from 3.2

This stuff is wonderful! I give one packet twice a day a few hours after his 2 meals. I've done this for 3-4 months now. Our kitty had more of an acute kidney injury (related to daily NSAID usage, beware!) vs chronic kidney disease & he's only 8 years old so I don't know how this would work on chronic kidney disease in an older cat, but for our little guy this really worked wonders. He wouldn't tolerate sub q fluids so we used this & took him off the NSAIDs & his creatinine consistently dropped from 3.2 to 3.0 on fluids without hydra care then down to 2.7 on hydra care then now 2.2 having been on hydra care for 3-4 months consistently. Tip, our kitty didn't like this mixed w his food, only on it's own. Also, your cat will pee more obviously.

Saved my old cat

I inherited an old cat, obviously in the beginning stages of Kidney issues, but the one causing him a lot of pain was constipation. He was nauseated and began upchucking his food (especially the dry food). I began infusing him with fluids once a week, he hated it. Then I tried mixing Hydra care in his wet food and we have had no issues since! As long as he is pooping, he is not up-chucking. Hydra care is a wonderful thing.

Our Trio of Tuxies love it

I got this for our 8/9 year old female who has been constipated. Her lab work has shown elevated SDMA which signifies CKD is on the horizon. She absolutely loves it, and will lap up a packet with no issue. I only give her 1 packet a day, and add pumpkin to her food. Our 2 boys like it also, which is great because if they have urinary issues at some point I can give them this for hydration. This is a total win in our house! Will keep box on hand from here on out just in case, and when our females kidneys get worse will add this as a daily treat for her.

Purina Pro Hydra Care

I was having problems with my cat urinating to much because of Kidney disease. I have been using Purina Pro Hydra Care for about 3 weeks now and have seen a slow difference. I can only give him a small amount (divided in fourths) in his wet food with his medication twice a day. I will order more. Thank you. Rosemary

Great Idea, but....

I wish these came in different flavors. I've owned four cats, and three of the four would not TOUCH liver, so why liver flavor. My kitty was just diagnosed with diabetes, so we're trying to get him to drink more so he doesn't become dehydrated. I put this in a bowl and left it out overnight in hopes he would get some in him. No such luck. He will NOT touch this stuff, so it's going to our local rescue organization.

great product

My vet recommended this because my cat struggles with constipation. She loves these. They're liver flavored which she enjoys (i was worried it was going to be flavorless). It's definitely helped her. Will definitely continue to buy

4 Senior Paws up

Both of my boys (two 16-year-old cats) LOVE this Hydra Care! My one with cancer, Mr. Darcy, cries for it when he's hungry - he still has a pretty good appetite. Mr. D really needed the extra hydration - he is actually showing signs of more energy. My snuggle buddy, Little Buddy, is showing signs of being able to go #2 better - he was uncomfortable for a while with constipation. So, with Hydra Care and their prescription food - they seem to be holding their own while they both have stages of CKD.

senior kitties LOVE it

I have two 14 year old cats and every cat owner knows they never drink enough water. With them being so old and having constipation and slight kidney issues this has helped tremendously. They love the flavor and they’ll eat this mixed in with their renal care wet food.

Good product idea, but cat won't drink it

I wanted to give my senior girl more ways to stay hydrated and a vet tech recommended this after a particularly nasty bladder infection. It seems like a good product (it's like a very liquid-y pouch of pureed food), but she just won't drink it. She loves brothy wet foods like tiki cat broths, so I thought she would like this, but she wouldn't touch the stuff. Maybe they could make a tuna flavor/make it more appetizing, but until then, this won't work for her.

Liquid gold for cats with kidney disease

Trying to get my cat with kidney disease to eat and drink is no small feat. This stuff is like a slightly thicken broth that the cats love. I let the cat lick it off a 1 ml syringe when he wouldn't eat or drink.
