  • Hopeful so far. When mixed with baby food they are licking the bowl clean :)

I purchased this product from my vet (for twice the price on this site). I have 5 cats, all rescues and all at least 15 years old. Three have developed what seems to be IBS since numerous lab tests have ruled out other causes for their diarrhea and changes in litter box habits, i.e., not using the box, and some weight loss. I have tried everything for this problem including different types of food, etc. All canned foods made the problems worse or they wouldn't eat it at all (including the most expensive canned food on the market), so I wasted a lot of packets of FortiFlora. My vet just wanted to continue running more expensive tests including ultrasounds. After hours of internet research I I purchased this product from my vet (for twice the price on this site). My vet just wanted to continue running more expensive tests including ultrasounds. After hours of internet research I found one run by a licensed veterinarian. She recommended mixing it with plain turkey or chicken baby food that has no added ingredients, especially rice. It is working like a charm!! I mix 1 packet with 3 teaspoons of the slightly warmed baby food, and divide it among the 3 cats who have the problem. I began doing it like that so I wouldn't be wasting a lot of the product if they only took a bite or two. I have been doing this for about 2 weeks now, and I am seeing a big improvement in litter box habits, activity levels, etc., even with a low dose of the FortiFloria. This week I will begin giving 1 whole packet to each cat (rather than dividing it). The only issue I have is getting them to eat a large amount at once. They have always been free fed, so I have to catch them when they are hungry. I am seeing my new vet tomorrow to discuss this, and to make sure I am doing everything correctly. However, I have always used baby food for sick or very elderly pets, and have never had a problem. … more

  • He loves it!

    By on

Recommended by our vet to help soothe an IBS flare up. Goes right on top of the wet cat food and mixes in easily. My little guy loves the stuff so much that he'll pull the empty pouch out of the trash to try and lick out the rest! Symptoms of the IBS have been improving and my buddy seems to be doing better.

  • Kittens deal with it

    By on

When I first tried this the kittens loved it, scarfed down their food with it. Afterward when we tried it they looked unimpressed. That early look of delight was absolutely gone, and they turned their noses. Will probably only use it if their stools are loose or when giving antibiotics.

  • Fortiflora supplement

    By on

I like this product because when it is sprinkled on his wet cat food, he will eat what he ordinarily would turn his nose up at-saving me a lot of money in wasted cat food. He is on a kidney diet and he does not like the wet food-Fortiflora makes it more palatable to him.

  • disappointing ingredients

After my vet recommended we keep our kitties on a pro-biotic, I began looking into my options. First, I'd like to say, I already had some from previous fosters last summer. It was from PetAg and is called BeneBac. The vet personally suggested this Purina FortiFlora, I was already hesitant just because it is made by Purina. If you look at the ingredients, the very first one is "animal digest". Some folks may not be too concerned with that ingredient, but I am. These four kitties all came from rough beginnings and are now all healthy, happy, and doing great. So I cannot in good conscience use this product as a topper when their food doesn't have any grains/byproduct/animal digest. • Recommend it.

Switching my 3 cats to grain-free, quality wet food has been quite a long and challenging process. This has been hands-down the most helpful addition. They'll eat food they normally wouldn't touch when this is mixed in. It's kept me from having to donate or throw away a lot of brands they didn't like, which saved me $. There's hasn't been 100% success though.. we are talking cats here people . Don't be scared off by the ANTI animal-digest paranoia either. Do your own research. If you're in a similar situation, I definitely recommend this!

  • Controlling IBS

    By on

No one likes to deal with a cat that has chronic IBS. Because we love them we will try anything we can to make the situation better. FortiFlora along with a good Purina Pro Plan diet has made an enormous improvement in my cats IBS. He no longer has diarrhea all the time and in general he is feeling a lot better. I can actually see a positive change in his behaviour. I am delighted with FortiFlora and highly recommend it if you have an IBS issue that has otherwise gone unresolved. I noticed a difference in three days. In three weeks his diarrhea was completely gone.

  • Cat won't eat wet food with it

After Ziwipeak changed their wet canned food formula and my cat no longer refused to eat the new formula I started experimenting with many other wet canned food and have not had much success, so have been sticking to just freeze dried raw food and dry kibble. I read an article stating that to try Fortiflora because it tastes similar to what is coated on the outside of dry kibble, making it enticing to cats and that they would be willing to eat wet canned food with it that normally picky cats would not touch. I can't speak on the effectiveness of the probiotics since that was not the purpose I bought it for. … more

  • I use it to help my cat with herpes

    By on

The doctor prescribed it to my cat to improve his immune system since my cat has herpes feline. I usually mix it with a can of food daily. I believe it has been helping my cat's recovery.
