    Good for training

By elanna on Jul 8, 2019

I started using this for training rewards because what I usually use is out of stock. I actually like this better because I don’t have to cut anything up and it doesn’t need to be refrigerated. It’s less messy too.

    Dogs like dog food

    By on

My dogs like the Chicken Real Meat dog food. I use them as treats. They are a bit crumbly. The Venson is less crumbly.

Love at first bite but then?

    By on

I bought two flavors of this food. It is quite expensive, but very filling for my little pups. Have a Yorki who is 16 pounds, and a Coton de'Tulear who is 15 pounds. My dogs really liked the food the first couple of days, but then they both stopped eating it. I stoped using it for 5 days, and tried to reintroduce the food, and for some reason they still looked, sniffed and moved on. Disappointed, so will not reorder due to the expensive

    Piece size and texture varies

    By on

Both my small dogs LOVE all the flavors. When I first started getting it the pieces were smaller but now they are so big I have to break them up before I feed my dog. The ingredients used to be softer (fresh) but most shipments now the product is hard. I find that happening more with freeze dried products.

My dogs liked it as a topper but it's a bit pricey

    By on

So I have no complaints about the quality. My dogs liked it and it's wonderful nutritionally. However my dogs are just too big to eat this exclusively given the price. This bag would last my two dogs about 4 days if I fed it exclusively. So, as a topper, I recommend. I don't know if my dogs would like it as regular food, as I have to rotate their topper because they are royalty and demand variety. I will purchase this again in a few months. It's in the rotation now.

Great ingredients and price, but greasy

    By on

I bought both the Lamb and the Chicken version of this food. Loved the ingredients, especially the important inclusion of organs. Price was much better than the other "air dried" company. I usually feed raw, but that's not very practical for dog training sessions. So I was looking for a nearly raw, low-processed treat. Then I found that their dog food was even less expensive than their treats. The Lamb was a bit more crumbly, but this Chicken formula was quite greasy. Each time I cut these into little training treats, the knife, the cutting board, and my fingers were left greasy. If I picked one up and squeezed it, it would ooze chicken fat. Not a big deal, because my high-energy dog I bought both the Lamb and the Chicken version of this food. Loved the ingredients, especially the important inclusion of organs. Not a big deal, because my high-energy dog needs high fat in her diet. And compared to the Lamb, these were much more firm and thick, which made them easy to cut or even scissor into little pieces. And almost no crumbs were left on the bottom of the bag. Not sure if I got an off batch, but I will still be buying these again. … more

    Highly palatable, great for travel

    By on

I've yet to see a dog refuse this food! There is a drawback with larger dogs, so it's not always cost effective, but with smaller dogs and adding potatoes or rice as recommended for sensitive tummies (I actually feed a dehydrated premix to "stretch" it a little), but it keeps the dogs in great condition, with nice firm muscle. It's very similar to another "high end" food that costs more than twice the price, so if you want an air dried food, this is the way to go!

5 Stars Food Quality - 3 Stars Size of Food Pieces

    By on Top 25 Contributor

This is a very good food and I highly recommend it for larger dogs. I normally feed my 4 yorkies ZiwiPeak but decided to try this for a change. I had no problem getting the yorkies to eat it but the pieces were way to big. I had to end up putting the food in my Ninja food chopper/processor to get a size of food they could actually eat. Not sure why Real Meat opted to go with such large pieces. Maybe they don't want smaller dogs eating their food. If you don't mind chopping it up then give it a try for your smaller dogs too. Maybe Real Meat should consider making this in a smaller kibble (for lack of a better word) size.
