Regalo Easy Step Extra Wide Dog Gate, 49-in

The gate itself is good. It has 3 sections that connect to enlarge it. My problem is that it says it can expand up to 49 inches. My stairway is 48 inches and the only way it makes it to that point is if the long screws are extended almost all the way out. This leaves the gate very wobbly no matter how tight I make it. It has plastic stoppers that you screw to hold the metal screws in place, too tight and they can crack. The company also provides plastic place holders that you can screw into the wall to help hold it in place, but I have 3 big dogs that can tumble this gate over very easily. This gate would have been the perfect gate to keep our pup off of our hot tub cover, however it was too tall for the opening on our steps. The directions or lack of directions make it hard for me to figure out how to put it together, but there are videos out there that made it easier. Once it was put together we realized it would not fit the area we bought it for, however the gate is beautiful and opened and closed as advertised.

I have two German shepherds who are determined to get past anything I put in their way. The gate is sturdy enough to keep my dogs contained in a narrow doorway 36” but in the wider 42” area it’s not as sturdy and my dogs are able to move it. I specifically selected this gate because it was advertised for wider doorways but it’s not holding the dogs back like I had hoped it would.

We have ordered a couple different Regalo gates for various doorways in our home, and this brand is great! Easy to install, very durable, and they get the job done...keeping the puppy confined safely!

So glad I bought two. Both of these gates are perfect. I didn’t want to put holes in my wall, but in order for them to work properly you have to. It’s a small sacrifice for some really great gates.

We are using these on the tops of our stairs. Fits the wide opening (39” and 41.5”) perfectly and love how they’re easy to use, even bleary-eyed for middle of the night puppy potty breaks.

We use it to separate the living room from the kitchen so our 2 yro. Won’t go to the kitchen where she is always opening every and it works. They shake it like if they were gorillas, the 5 yro. Old those that but it holds on well.

While almost everything about the gate is nice and works well, we had a slight problem with installation. Our 39in wide hallway was apparently a sweet spot between extensions. The small extension with the adjustment bolts almost falling out was too short, but the bigger extension was too large to fit the wall. We had to pull out the inserts and cut off some of the extension. Replaced the inserts and all was well. So while there was some extra work to make it fit this specific width, the gate works very well. I would still recommend it.

I have a 15 lb. dog & this works great for him. Set up was quick & easy. It works great for wider than normal doorways. My daughter has a 5 month old boxer & he is able to push the gate hard enough to displace it. He is about 35 lbs. at this point. I think it would be harder for him to dislodge this gate if we didn’t need to use the extensions. Once he is full grown, I’m afraid this gate will be of little use for the boxer. If you have a small dog and need a gate for a wide doorway, this is an excellent choice.

Gate was very flimsy and difficult to put together. Threw it in a closet and forgot about it. Instructions were not clear.
