The first step in clipping your pet’s nails is making sure they’re calm and secure. Hold your pet, or have someone else hold them securely, but calmly. Also, make sure they can’t move their paws around too much. If your pet gets fussy, feed them a treat and continue the process.
Next, hold the paw in your hand and snip the tip of the nail off. If your pet has clear nails, you should be able to see the location of the quick inside. If the nail is black you won’t be able to see the quick. Just snip the very tip of the nail. The quick is the inner part of the nail, if clipped it will bleed. Don’t be afraid if it does, take some styptic powder and apply it to the wound. This will clot up almost immediately. Continue through every nail and don’t forget the Dewclaw (this is the nail on the side of the paw.)
Very good clippers and in a pretty color! I have a small dog under 15 lbs. with thick nails. She is not happy getting her nails clipped but this brand Resco which comes with extra blade does a very good job cutting evenly leaving a nice-looking nail. They don't make noise that would bother her to make her jumpy about letting me do my job. I start clipping puppies as soon as puppies need them clipped. No matter the age, if I see the sharp points I clip. When adults as soon as they make noise walking on the floor this reminds me nails need to be clipped. I highly recommend these clippers. I am a licensed professional dog groomer since 1981.
I have used this brand of clipper before with good results but this pair arrived with a dull blade. I am going to order another one and see if it was just that one pair that was an issue or if they have an ongoing quality problem.
I use this nail clipper on my cat. Even brand new it was not sharp and breaks the nail instead of cutting it. I will need to replace. Will not buy this brand again.
These nail clippers were just what I was looking for. Hard to find this style. Glad that you had them. I would like to know how to get replacement blades. I use them for our miniature dachshunds, and they work great for me. I highly recommend them.
Fresh out if the box, trying to clip just the tips of my large dogs nails (which are cut regularly) and the blade twists out the way so just shredded the tip of the nail. These do not do the job.
I have a 2 yr old cane corso . It took multiple tries to get one nail fully clipped . The quality of these clippers are very poor
I have tried several other types of clippers for my miniature chihuahua and these work the best. They don't pull on the nail bed And my dog sits more still
These are dull and barely get through my dogs nail. I even bought new blades and they don't help. I've used the same Resco clippers for almost 30 years and have used them on at least 3 dogs and they cut better than these brand new ones.
Came sharp, worked good on dog and cat. Bought to replace an old pair that broke of a different brand. Have had for 1-1/2 years so far. But they don't get used excessively either.
Great product. Easy to use and didn't hurt my dogs
