Your furry friend must have a current heartworm test result on file with your veterinarian in order to be prescribed heartworm medication. Please visit your veterinarian to have this test performed annually to protect your four-legged friend. Revolution is a medication that is applied directly on your furry friend's skin to protect them from biting critters. When applied every 30 days, Revolution protects against heartworms, fleas, and ear mites. It's also effective in preventing and treating roundworms and hookworms in kittens and sarcoptic mange and American dog tick infestations in puppies.

Revolution is formulated to kill adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month. It is also indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations, prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, and the treatment and control of ear mite infestations. Revolution is also indicated for the treatment and control of sarcoptic mange and for the control of tick infestations due to Dermacentor variabilis.

Possible Side Effects

In safety studies, Revolution was administered at 1, 3, 5, and 10 times the recommended dose to sixweek-old puppies, and no adverse reactions were observed. When tested for oral ingestion at the recommended topical dose in 5 to 8-month-old beagles, no adverse reactions were observed. In a topical safety study conducted with avermectinsensitive collies at 1, 3 and 5 times the recommended dose of Revolution, salivation was observed in all treatment groups. Revolution also was administered at 3 times the recommended dose to heartworm infected dogs, and no adverse effects were observed. If side effects do occur, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Drug & Food Interactions

Talk to your veterinarian about any other drugs your dog is taking before starting this medication.

Prior to administration of Revolution, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections. At the discretion of the veterinarian, infected dogs should be treated to remove adult heartworms. Revolution is not effective against adult D. immitis and, while the number of circulating microfilariae may decrease following treatment, Revolution is not effective for microfilariae clearance. Hypersensitivity reactions have not been observed in dogs with patent heartworm infections administered three times the recommended dose of Revolution. Higher doses were not tested. For use in animals only. Keep out of reach of children.

Storage Instructions

Store at temperatures below 86°F.

  1. Remove the Revolution tube from its protective package.
  2. Holding the tube upright, firmly press the cap down until you hear a ‘click’ sound, which signals that the cap has punctured the applicator seal. Remove the cap and check to be sure that the tip of the tube is open.
  3. Part the hair on the back of the animal at the base of the neck, in front of the shoulder blades, until the skin is visible.
  4. Apply the tip of the Revolution tube directly to the skin. Squeeze the tube firmly 3–4 times in one spot until empty. Keep tube compressed on the final squeeze to avoid drawing liquid back into tube. Avoid contact between Revolution and your fingers.
  5. While keeping tube squeezed, drag it away from liquid and lift up to remove.
  6. Ensure tube is empty.

Do not massage Revolution into the skin. Do not apply when the haircoat is wet. Do not apply to broken skin – Revolution contains alcohol. Stiff hair, clumping of hair, hair discoloration, or a slight powdery residue may be observed at the site in some animals. These effects are usually temporary and do not affect the safety or effectiveness of the product.

What is Revolution?

Easy to apply, quick to dry, Revolution (selamectin) protects dogs against a variety of common internal and external parasites. Revolution is the first FDA-approved, topically applied medication for dogs 6 weeks and older that:

  • Prevents heartworm disease.
  • Kills adult fleas.
  • Prevents flea eggs from hatching.
  • Prevents and controls flea infestations.
  • Treats and controls ear mites.
  • Treats and controls sarcoptic mange.
  • Controls American dog tick infestations.

Revolution is quick-drying, nongreasy and waterfast, with no unpleasant odor, so you can cuddle and play with your dog as soon as the product dries. Bathing your dog 2 hours after application does not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution.

Revolution is a prescription-only medication available only through a veterinarian, not a pesticide registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

How Revolution works?

Just one dose a month applied at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades is all your dog needs for protection against fleas, heartworms and other parasites. No pills. No sticky sprays. No more hassling with multiple products.

After application, Revolution enters the bloodstream through the skin. Concentrations of Revolution in the blood and tissues prevent heartworm disease. Revolution selectively redistributes from the blood to the skin, where it provides protection against fleas, flea eggs, American dog ticks and mites.

Is Revolution right for your dog?

Parasites are an annoying fact of life for our dogs. Parasites can cause a range of problems, from bothersome scratching to more serious medical issues, such as infections and dangerous or even deadly diseases. How dangerous these problems are depends on the type of parasite, the degree of infection or infestation, and your dog's reaction to the parasite.

Most parasites that affect dogs pose no risk for humans. However, a few parasites, like sarcoptic mange mites, are zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted from animals to humans. Your veterinarian can recommend methods to prevent, treat or control many canine parasites to reduce the chance of human exposure and to keep your dog healthy.

  • Great Service

First, great service from Chewy. The product I’ve only used one dose and another is due in 2 days. I could still see the occasional flea up until a few days ago. I’m hopeful that Revolution will be totally effective within the next month. The enclosed information had warned me that it would take approximately one month to get rid of fleas in all stages of their life cycle and hatching eggs.

  • Excellent Purchase

    By on

This item was recommended by multiple veterinarians. It’s highly effective and covers more than your over-the-counter flea and tick prevention medication. Revolution might be a bit more pricey but it saves you in the long run should your pet get a resistant flea or tick bug that requires a vet visit and testing. If your vet doesn’t carry revolution in their clinic, you can purchase it on chewy.com like I did. Chewy has excellent verification and shipping speeds. Thank you so much for getting this to us so quickly!!!

  • Revolution Works

    By on

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it did not kill all the fleas within a couple of days. But I know it works because I have used it on my cat with great success. This time I bought it for my dog. I was giving him a pill for fleas ( it was cheaper), but I had to be creative in giving it to him. Given the chance, he would spit it out. And then I discovered fleas on him, so I needed a better answer. I didn’t realize the dog version also treats for heart worm, so I am very pleased.

  • Revolution great except one thing.....

    By on

I have used revolution for years and it has worked great for my larger dogs as far as ticks go. We recently got a smaller dog and he picks up a lot of ticks and revolution doesn't kill all tick varieties. I don't know if it is just a bad year for ticks but we had to switch to a different product for tick control.

  • Necesseties

My dogs have been on Revolution since May and hopefully it will keep them in good health, guarding against fleas, ticks, and heart worms. It was recommended by my vet in California, but most vets here in Camp Verde don't carry it but will give prescriptions for it. And Chewy's price is the best I've found.

  • Thanks for Listening!

A year ago, Chewy.com did not offer Revolution and I was forced to pay much higher prices. I called and asked if they would offer the prescription and was told to keep checking. YAY, it is offered now. Chewie.com even coordinates with my veterinarian for the prescription and the order is sent to me. Very convenient!

  • Revolution

I have tried many non-prescription topical flea solution for cats and dogs. Revolution being a prescription topical solution, thought it would be better. Unfortunately it didn’t work either, I put it on my 12 lb dog. She was scratching after a week or so, used a flea comb and sure enough there were couple of fleas. May be she gets them from our backyard, but aren’t flea medicines supposed to repel. I have even tried Frontline spray for fleas!

  • no Heartworm !

I have used Revolution for years on all of the gos I have had since the 80's and it has always been great. All my tests have come back negative. It is rather pricey now as to back then, but I hate to switch after all this time. I have used it on my present schnauzer since she was a puppy and she is almost 12.

  • Revolution works good

Revolution works better than the other flea, tick and heartworm meds. Our dog does not itch as much using Revolution compared to the other treatments.

  • Too soon to tell!

    By on

I must say I was surprised to see a flea on my dog. She has never had fleas since I have always used another topical treatment for fleas. But i see this product has a fea prevention in it already and did not use anything else. Several days after applying this product I found a live flea on her. Now I don't trust this product and I had to buy 6 months supply. Expensive product!
