Description

Your furry friend must have a current heartworm test result on file with your veterinarian in order to be prescribed heartworm medication. Please visit your veterinarian to have this test performed annually to protect your four-legged friend. Revolution is a medication that is applied directly on your furry friend's skin to protect them from biting critters. When applied every 30 days, Revolution protects against heartworms, fleas, and ear mites. It's also effective in preventing and treating roundworms and hookworms in kittens and sarcoptic mange and American dog tick infestations in puppies.

Uses

Revolution is formulated to kill adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month. It is also indicated for the prevention and control of flea infestations, prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis, and the treatment and control of ear mite infestations. Revolution is also indicated for the treatment and control of sarcoptic mange and for the control of tick infestations due to Dermacentor variabilis.

Possible Side Effects

In safety studies, Revolution was administered at 1, 3, 5, and 10 times the recommended dose to sixweek-old puppies, and no adverse reactions were observed. When tested for oral ingestion at the recommended topical dose in 5 to 8-month-old beagles, no adverse reactions were observed. In a topical safety study conducted with avermectinsensitive collies at 1, 3 and 5 times the recommended dose of Revolution, salivation was observed in all treatment groups. Revolution also was administered at 3 times the recommended dose to heartworm infected dogs, and no adverse effects were observed. If side effects do occur, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Drug & Food Interactions

Talk to your veterinarian about any other drugs your dog is taking before starting this medication.

Precautions

Prior to administration of Revolution, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infections. At the discretion of the veterinarian, infected dogs should be treated to remove adult heartworms. Revolution is not effective against adult D. immitis and, while the number of circulating microfilariae may decrease following treatment, Revolution is not effective for microfilariae clearance. Hypersensitivity reactions have not been observed in dogs with patent heartworm infections administered three times the recommended dose of Revolution. Higher doses were not tested. For use in animals only. Keep out of reach of children.

Storage Instructions

Store at temperatures below 86°F.

  1. Remove the Revolution tube from its protective package.
  2. Holding the tube upright, firmly press the cap down until you hear a ‘click’ sound, which signals that the cap has punctured the applicator seal. Remove the cap and check to be sure that the tip of the tube is open.
  3. Part the hair on the back of the animal at the base of the neck, in front of the shoulder blades, until the skin is visible.
  4. Apply the tip of the Revolution tube directly to the skin. Squeeze the tube firmly 3–4 times in one spot until empty. Keep tube compressed on the final squeeze to avoid drawing liquid back into tube. Avoid contact between Revolution and your fingers.
  5. While keeping tube squeezed, drag it away from liquid and lift up to remove.
  6. Ensure tube is empty.

Do not massage Revolution into the skin. Do not apply when the haircoat is wet. Do not apply to broken skin – Revolution contains alcohol. Stiff hair, clumping of hair, hair discoloration, or a slight powdery residue may be observed at the site in some animals. These effects are usually temporary and do not affect the safety or effectiveness of the product.

FAQ

What is Revolution?

Easy to apply, quick to dry, Revolution (selamectin) protects dogs against a variety of common internal and external parasites. Revolution is the first FDA-approved, topically applied medication for dogs 6 weeks and older that:

  • Prevents heartworm disease.
  • Kills adult fleas.
  • Prevents flea eggs from hatching.
  • Prevents and controls flea infestations.
  • Treats and controls ear mites.
  • Treats and controls sarcoptic mange.
  • Controls American dog tick infestations.

Revolution is quick-drying, nongreasy and waterfast, with no unpleasant odor, so you can cuddle and play with your dog as soon as the product dries. Bathing your dog 2 hours after application does not reduce the effectiveness of Revolution.

Revolution is a prescription-only medication available only through a veterinarian, not a pesticide registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

How Revolution works?

Just one dose a month applied at the base of the neck in front of the shoulder blades is all your dog needs for protection against fleas, heartworms and other parasites. No pills. No sticky sprays. No more hassling with multiple products.

After application, Revolution enters the bloodstream through the skin. Concentrations of Revolution in the blood and tissues prevent heartworm disease. Revolution selectively redistributes from the blood to the skin, where it provides protection against fleas, flea eggs, American dog ticks and mites.

Is Revolution right for your dog?

Parasites are an annoying fact of life for our dogs. Parasites can cause a range of problems, from bothersome scratching to more serious medical issues, such as infections and dangerous or even deadly diseases. How dangerous these problems are depends on the type of parasite, the degree of infection or infestation, and your dog's reaction to the parasite.

Most parasites that affect dogs pose no risk for humans. However, a few parasites, like sarcoptic mange mites, are zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted from animals to humans. Your veterinarian can recommend methods to prevent, treat or control many canine parasites to reduce the chance of human exposure and to keep your dog healthy.

  • Revolution Makes It Easier

I am a fan of the Revolution Topical Solution for two reasons. I appreciate the three way coverage ~ fleas, ticks, and as a heart worm preventive. I also like that I apply the solution where my dogs cannot accidentally ingest it, but also see that the dosage goes where I put it. In the past, my greyhound did not like any of the chewable products. Revolution was not yet on the market. I would have to cut up the chewable into tiny pieces and try to hide it in his food, peanut butter or creme cheese! Sometimes, I would find a little brown something a few days later, either in his bed or somewhere in the kitchen. Problem solved!

  • Revolution works Good!

I have tried other flea, tick and heartworm meds before and Revolution works better than the others. Our dogs don't itch as much after using Revolution, which had been a problem after using the other treatments.

  • Revolution from chewy.com

    By on

I normally get this from my veterinarian, but this is the first time I've ordered it through chewy.com. It came really super fast and actually cost me a little bit less then it would have thru my veterinarian here locally. The veterinarian has had Ruby on Revolution since she was a baby. That was about 5 years ago and Ruby is only 5 pounds now full grown. Through all her tests she's been fine. She's had no reaction from it and it seems to be a really good product. However I don't recommend medications that's up to a veterinarian, but I do recommend chewy.com they're fantastic.

Great way to protect your dog if they don’t want to swallow a pill. It’s fast and easy to do plus your dog will not get upset to have it administered this way.

  • One Squirt & Done

    By on

You just need to squirt Revolution once a month on the back of your dog's neck and you're done with protection against heart worm, fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and roundworms. A little pricey, but worth it.

  • A Revolution-ary product!

I've used this product for over two years now and it works great! I live out in the country and none of my furbabies have had any issues with ticks or fleas or ear mites. Cheaper at my vet though.
