Curiosity killed the cat, but the Richell Cat Safety Gate can help your feline friend stay safe and sound in any room or hallway! Because it’s tension-mounted, this gate is easy and harmless to install. Open and close the door with the paw-shaped lock that opens one way. You won’t have to worry about your pet getting in trouble while you’re gone. The poles are rounded with narrow gaps in between so your purring pal can’t climb, jump over or squeeze through the gate. Rubber feet dress the bottom of the gate to prevent it from scratching the floors.

The gate is high quality and I was able to put it together by myself, but… within 10 minutes my cat was on top of the gate and almost got over. I grabbed him and he latched onto my arm (ouch!). Workaround 1 was adding mesh to the gap which didn’t work and workaround 2 was screwing wood pieces across the top gap. I haven’t had the energy to design a better solution, so I am keep the door closed unless he is closely supervised. This cat is 2-3 yrs old with lots of energy and he sprays, so he is in my office while I work on behavior training. I need to be able to open/close the actual room door for introductions with my other cats. He jumps on top of the room door and then tightropes himself to the top of the gate. This has been an expensive accessory that will require some work on my end.
This is no reflection on Chewy's part as they were great in the return process. DO NOT BUY THIS GATE. It is not a one piece, full size gate. It comes in halves and you have to put it together like an Erector Set. The listing says no assembly required and no tools required. With the microscopic screws that come with it to put the bars together, it's going to be flimsy at best. Even the pictures on the Richell website shows a solid, one piece gate. However there are pictures of two tubes. The rep at Richell said those are what tells the consumer that it's a two piece gate. That doesn't tell me anything about the length of the tubes or that it's a two piece gate. Unless you can build things (I can but wanted a one piece gate) DO NOT BUY THIS GATE.
Ok, this gate comes in pieces a Like an IKEA project. At first I was annoyed by this. Given the price 8 expected way more. But, it was simple to assemble and it works. It fits in our small doorway, it's smooth and quiet. I mean if the cat was super motivated it could get out the top, but we screened that part off. And it keeps our cats seperate. It's pressure set so non damaging. Worth the cost.
Floor space and a Phillips head are all you need. I put together and up by myself with no problems. It was easy to put together once you get started. So far so good, pretty solid. It's helping keep my cat quarantined while he's recovering from a procedure, but still be able to see everyone.
This is the tallest cat gate on the market, but it arrived with several broken components. A key piece of the frame was not properly welded, making the door a bit unstable. One of the metal rods was too thick for the washer, so I had to secure them with Velcro ties. I will keep the gate for now, because I do not want to go through the hassle of disassembling and shipping it. Unfortunately, Chewy could not provide a partial refund or store credit. I expect higher quality for $400.
The quality of the product is very good. The price is high but the weight and sturdiness of installation make it worth it for me. I wish there were more competitors to choose from but I fear a lower price would be a much lesser quality item.
Chewy is great but this gate is terrible. Within an hour of getting it set up, my cat broke one of the plastic end pieces on the side extension. The bars are attached with very thin plastic that snapped easily.
This gate was the best purchase I made for my foster kitties. It is perfect for keeping cat colonies separated and for making slow introductions. Nothing on the market compares to its design or quality. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for. I recommend having someone with mechanical skills assemble it.
Got this because my cat could climb and jump over 48” gates. It was pretty heavy in the box but once the parts were laid out it went together fairly easily. Despite recommending two people putting it together, I was able to do it alone without difficulty. Once up, it was stable and solid and is working well. Only complaint is the high price tag, but it does seem to be durable and of good quality so far.
I payed $389.99 for this, and it serves its purpose well **but** the threads are cheap and the tolerances are off, which makes it loosen all the time and require re tightening. The poles are also a little to short, so I had to add some spacers in them to keep it from shaking all the time.
