Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

FAQ

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

    Probably saved her life

Our 13-year old Lily was wasting away of chronic sinus trouble that kept her from breathing (i.e. can't smell food so wouldn't eat!). She was under 5 lbs. and losing, and we were heartsick. I tried this "loaf" AGING and she loves it and eats an entire big 5.8 oz. can a day plus some Fancy Feast!!! I find my cats prefer "Pate/loaf" to anything else. We can already see improvement in all areas of her life after just 12 cans. I'm reordering today! It's like a miracle. As long as she'll eat it, we'll buy it! … more

Our girl is prone to kidney stones AND has only one kidney that works well. Soooooo, when she gets a stone she can go into kidney failure. One of the many ways we are treating this is to try to reduce her calcium levels. This food has lower calcium than others. Thank goodness she loves to eat it.

    Two Sick Cats Loving it...

    By on

I have two older cats (15 & 14), one with Stage 1 Kidney Disease and the other with Urinary issues. One is a picky eater in general and won't touch canned food but the Vet suggested canned for the obvious moisture content. Vet tried Hills' K/D for my boy with the kidney issues but that only gave him diarrhea. Sooo, I was on the lookout for a canned food that would entice both my cats without adverse effects. I liked that this formula addressed issues common in older cats, like kidney and urinary issues - exactly what I was dealing with. Well I tried it and not one, but both cats love it... no diarrhea, no throwing up and they both look forward to meal time. And for the kidney disease, the protein level is low, which is important... maybe not quite as low as prescription diet kidney food but it also doesn't come with the adverse effects, so it's good enough for now.. even the Vet agreed to this. So I'm grateful to have across this brand and formula while looking diligently for something that could work. I will add that I first tried the sliced pieces in gravy formula of this food since it was sold locally but the boys didn't like it... found Chewy had what they call 'loaf' and I call 'pate style' and this is the winner! Highly recommend. I have also purchased the dry formula recently and the again, both boys love it. I try to give them a little dry each day in an attempt to keep what teeth that have left healthy:) Hope this review is helpful to someone. … more

    Great for older cats.

    By on

Most people are aware that their older pets have special needs, and it's difficult to find foods that are nutritious and palatable. This one is a home run on both counts.

    Great cat food

My cat is a very picky eater and he usually never finishes his soft food. However, he ate every last crumb of the Royal Canin food.

    They like it!

The cats really like this. It is very smooth and thinner than most other pate style foods. It is very stinky though.

I have 2 cats, 19 and 16. This stuff is amazing. My 19 yr old was starting to throw up alot, it was taking a toll on her. As soon as i tried this, she put weight back on and looks great. No issues at all. It's been a miracle for her and I'm so glad I tried it.

My cats would give this six stars if they could

I have seven cats and the patriarch Hampton aka Dada Cat is now 12. He was recently diagnosed with the beginning stages of heart disease, kidney stones, and an enlarged kidney, so my vet recommended he eat only wet food, and gave him a prescription for canned kidney food. In typical cat fashion, Hampton hates the kidney food, so I bought him this instead. He LOVES it. He gobbles it down every time and licks the bowl clean. The problem is that the other six cats love it, too, including the youngest two, who are one year old. Consequently, dinner time is a logistical nightmare. The other cats will bum-rush his bowl and push him out of the way to get to this stuff. And since Hampton is a gentleman I have seven cats and the patriarch Hampton aka Dada Cat is now 12. Consequently, I've taken to feeding him in my bedroom with the door closed. And if he doesn't finish his food in one setting (which he rarely does), the other cats will descend on this food and when he comes back for seconds, all he'll find is a shiny clean bowl. So I have to stand guard over him while he eats, and hide his bowl as soon as he walks away. So far, the only safe place is on top of the frig. Otherwise the youngest cats will come sniffing around looking for his bowl, and climb to where ever I've stashed it, and clean him out. Cats can be so ruthless lol. … more

    IMPRESSED!!!

    By on

My 'ol man loves this food! He's 17, can't eat hard food and this was the cure. His personality has come back and his coat is the softest it's ever been. Highly impressed, wish it was cheaper. This food is what is prolonging his life, so for me, it's so worth it.

    My cats love this food!

My cats go nuts for this food. They love it, and I’m confident from reading about it that its quite healthy for them. (Plus it’s fewer calories than the other food I was feeding them.)
