Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7-day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • Kitten Lady was right

    By on

I took a tip from the Kitten Lady and tried this for our new 5 week old rescue kitten and was not disappointed! Looks and smells like a pretty high-quality kitten food. The kitten certainly had no complaints and it seems to be fairly reasonably priced for what you're getting.

  • It may be right for some kittens

    By on

My Maine Coon's breeder said that the food was "too rich" when the kitten was very young. He seems to like it just fine now that he is 17 weeks old. His stool is soft so it may still be too rich for him. The geriatric cats like it because it is so easy to chew.

  • The kittens and mom love it!

    By on

Thank you. I have a mom cat who is being very particular on what she will eat...therefore, her litter of kittens are not learning how to eat on their own. However, by offering her the RC babycat...she took to it right away, and so have her babies!

  • The best for tiny kittens

    By on

I have fostered many kittens over the years and have found Babycat to the best kitten food for them. It is great for mixing with formula to create a gruel to introduce kittens to solid food. Since I've started using Babycat, I have not had a single kitten get sick while in my care.

  • Babycats love it

    By on

I bought the 5.8 oz cans, and my 2 babycats love it. I won't be buying it again as I will be transitioning them to the Kitten variety of Royal Canin by the end of the month as they will have reached 4 months of age.

  • Great food for picky older cat

    By on

My almost 20-year-old cat is extremely picky and will only eat smooth food with gravy. she absolutey loves this food, which is great because it's high calorie, and she is very thin. I will definitely reorder.

  • Going great

    By on

I purchased this for our 17 year old neutered cat who has CKD, complicated by bouts of pancreatitis. Flint, our senior, gets fussy about his food and I have ordered just about everything under the sun to keep him eating, along with his weekly sub q fluids. Royal Canin has specific kidney issue food that Flint has tried and likes......occasionally. So this Royal Canin babycat has been a godsend for Flint. Flint eats it, and as important, likes it! I hesitate to put my luck in writing as it seems as soon as I think I have a winner Flint gives me the paw and says all done. But so far, so good.

  • Great for weaning

    By on

I foster bottle baby kittens for my local shelter. The best food to wean them on is Babycat load in sauce. Most of the babies take to it like they've been eating it forever. I have convinced some of the other foster to use RC kitten food as well for healthy growth.

  • Easy to mix with milk formula and feed from a bottle.

    By on

Kittens love this stuff, and it is very smooth, which makes it easy to mash up and mix with KMR and feed from a bottle. This is how I transition my foster kittens from milk formula to solid food.
