Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • Great product

Great product, I foster kitten for my local shelter so I have had experience with raising many baby kittens and this is by far the best food I have found. Since using Royal Canine babycat my kittens have had less digestive issues, gain weight and have energy. The cost is a bit higher then other brands but the results are well worth the extra cost. Chewy had the lowest price by far.

  • Kitten loves it!

    By on

My 5 month old kitten loves this. The breeder said she didn't like the fancy feast she was feeding her but she gobbles the food up and is growing bigger and more beautiful everyday. I'm trying to transition her to the kitten formula and I see a real difference in color and texture. She instantly turned her nose up to the kitten formula. I tried mixing a bit of kitten with baby cat and she's eating a bit but she doesn't seem to like the kitten formula as much.

  • Best food ever

    By on

This is seriously so good I can use it as bait to catch feral cats. The kittens I catch and foster love it and I have not, as of yet, had one refuse to eat the food. They go from dull and skinny to fat and glossy after even just a week of eating this; of course some of this can be attributed to simply having a regular meal, but a lot of the improvement is down to the food itself. A really great food, I just wish it was cheaper.

I was fostering some kittens who were refusing to wean onto the food the shelter suggested. I tried this and I've never seen them so excited for meal time. They would gobble up every last bite and the food helped get them to a very healthy weight. The shelter has now had a much higher success with weaning other kittens on this wet food.

  • Kitten Lady was right

    By on

I took a tip from the Kitten Lady and tried this for our new 5 week old rescue kitten and was not disappointed! Looks and smells like a pretty high-quality kitten food. The kitten certainly had no complaints and it seems to be fairly reasonably priced for what you're getting.

  • It may be right for some kittens

    By on

My Maine Coon's breeder said that the food was "too rich" when the kitten was very young. He seems to like it just fine now that he is 17 weeks old. His stool is soft so it may still be too rich for him. The geriatric cats like it because it is so easy to chew.

  • The kittens and mom love it!

    By on

Thank you. I have a mom cat who is being very particular on what she will eat...therefore, her litter of kittens are not learning how to eat on their own. However, by offering her the RC babycat...she took to it right away, and so have her babies!

  • The best for tiny kittens

    By on

I have fostered many kittens over the years and have found Babycat to the best kitten food for them. It is great for mixing with formula to create a gruel to introduce kittens to solid food. Since I've started using Babycat, I have not had a single kitten get sick while in my care.

'Possum loves this food. It was a good transition from the milk replacer to solid food for this very young kitten.
