This Royal Canin formula is designed exclusively for pure breed German Shepherds over 15 months. The German Shepherd has a notably fragile digestive system, which often leads to soft stools, frequent digestive upset and sometimes bloating. Unlike other breeds, the German Shepherd’s skin is extremely alkaline and very sensitive. That's why it's important to choose a diet tailor-made for their specific needs.

This is only a guide. Optimal feeding amounts may vary according to your dog's temperament, activity level and environment. If you have any questions regarding your pet's health, please contact your veterinarian.
We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Why Pure Breed Dogs Need Tailored Nutrition
From their personalities to their distinctive physiologies, pure breed dogs have unique characteristics that make them sought-after and beloved companions. When choosing a formula, it's important to keep in mind the unique characteristics of your breed including:
Face and Jaw: All dogs fall into two basic jaw types: Brachycephalic or mesocephalic. Breeds with short, broad muzzles (like Bulldogs) are examples of a brachycephalic jaw. Breeds with a longer muzzle (like Labrador Retrievers) are examples of mesocephalic breeds. The jaw type, and even biting patterns can affect how a breed picks up kibble.
Skin Types: The skin's most important function is to serve as a barrier of protection-but not all breeds have the same skin type. From wrinkled and folded (which traps heat and moisture) to sensitive or water resistant, precise levels of key nutrients help to support a breed's unique skin health needs.
Distinctive Coats: There's more to a coat than meets the eye. From the color and texture to undercoats, each pure breed dog has a unique coat with unique needs.
Breed Specific Formulas
Every dog is unique. From the small, flat-faced Pug to the obesity-prone Labrador Retriever, Royal Canin Breed Health Nutrition is tailor-made to address the unique needs of pure breed dogs. These breed specific formulas benefit from the latest Royal Canin research on the selection of the best protein sources, unique nutrients and tailor-made kibbles.
Formulated for German Shepherds
Royal Canin's German Shepherd Adult Dry Dog Food is designed exclusively for pure breed German Shepherds over 15 months.

Digestive performance: This formula addresses sensitive digestion common in German Shepherds with highly digestible L.I.P. proteins and a selection of specific fibers. These limit intestinal fermentation and help maintain a balanced intestinal flora.
Healthy skin & coat: Appropriate food plays an important part in maintaining the quality of the skin and coat. German Shepherd Adult Dry Dog Food helps support the skin's role as a barrier with an exclusive complex of nutrients, and helps maintain skin and coat health with EPA and DHA.
Bone & joint support: German Shepherds tend to have a lively temperament that can lead to hard-working joints. This formula helps support healthy bones and joints and maintain an ideal weight.

Exclusive Kibble
German Shepherds have a long, strong muzzle with equally strong teeth. The size, shape and texture of the kibble in German Shepherd Adult Dry Dog Food is exclusively designed for easy pick up while also encouraging dogs to chew.

Why Royal Canin?
Over time, Royal Canin has accumulated vast knowledge about cats and dogs that only extensive research, scientific study and tireless talks with pet professionals, veterinarians and owners can provide. That knowledge led them to develop precise nutrition for cats and dogs. Each Royal Canin formula is tailored to pets' size, age, lifestyle and breed and contains more than 50 perfectly balanced nutrients for the most effective diet possible.
Their focus on science puts pets at the heart of the formulation process, choosing only ingredients that optimize the food's nutritional content. Royal Canin also continues to invest heavily in new technology to ensure their quality and food safety systems remain state-of-the-art, so pets can continue to benefit from the latest in food health and nutrition.

When this arrived there was a break in the bag. Bullet didn’t wait for us to pick it up. He just ate it. Every meal until the last two weeks he couldn’t wait for his bowl to be filled. He has had an skin infection that is almost healed and now will only eat the soft canned German Shepherd food. Vet said it’s the antibiotics. This week I chopping his dry food into smaller pieces and mixing it with the canned food so he is eating more. (Of course he will eat it straight out of my hand too). Spoiled baby!

First time customer, just signed up for automatic shipping. Our dog really likes this brand of food, he's gaining weight, coat looking better. He's a picky eater but Royal Canin seems to be working. Chewy is awesome! Thank you for being there! I know of 3 other people using Chewy and they are very happy customers,so convenient for busy people.

I normally prefer dog food with less "fillers," but my dogs' Vet recommended that I try this breed specific formula. I've been feeding it to my German Shepherd for about three years now, and she has done wonderfully well on it. More importantly, she loves it. She has not had any health issues and her coat has stayed glossy and not dry. She is bright eyed and bushy tailed and very healthy.

I'll echo many other reviewers and say that this food has helped my GSD more than any other "human grade" dog foods on the market. And trust me - we've tried them all. We often forget as pet parents that we should be catering our fur baby's tastes and nutritional needs, not just what sounds good. RC's food checks out on a lot of levels, just do a little research. Highly recommend.

My GS is the biggest baby of all... if the kibbles were a little bit smaller, I will still purchase it. My GS is very picky. I’m trying to wean my dog from vet diet... he’s doing well with this but he doesn’t like it too much... maybe it’s just my dog

My dog has been on this food forever, and I marvel at how beautiful his coat is and how well he still runs and plays at his age. He's always ready to go. He just seems to be ageless.
