This Royal Canin formula is designed exclusively for pure breed German Shepherd puppies from 8 weeks to 15 months. The young German Shepherd tends to be more sensitive to digestive upset than other breeds, and also has alkaline skin just like an adult. Large puppies like German Shepherds grow quickly, and their active lifestyle can place stress on their joints that can have lifetime effects. That's why it's important to feed a diet that is tailor-made for their specific needs.

This is only a guide. Optimal feeding amounts may vary according to your pet's temperament, activity level and environment. If you have any questions regarding your pet's health, please contact your veterinarian.
We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.
How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?
We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?
Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?
Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.
How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?
Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.
How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?
Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.
Why Pure Breed Dogs Need Tailored Nutrition
From their personalities to their distinctive physiologies, pure breed dogs have unique characteristics that make them sought-after and beloved companions. When choosing a formula, it's important to keep in mind the unique characteristics of your breed including:
Face and Jaw: All dogs fall into two basic jaw types: Brachycephalic or mesocephalic. Breeds with short, broad muzzles (like Bulldogs) are examples of a brachycephalic jaw. Breeds with a longer muzzle (like Labrador Retrievers) are examples of mesocephalic breeds. The jaw type, and even biting patterns can affect how a breed picks up kibble.
Skin Types: The skin's most important function is to serve as a barrier of protection-but not all breeds have the same skin type. From wrinkled and folded (which traps heat and moisture) to sensitive or water resistant, precise levels of key nutrients help to support a breed's unique skin health needs.
Distinctive Coats: There's more to a coat than meets the eye. From the color and texture to undercoats, each pure breed dog has a unique coat with unique needs.
Breed Specific Formulas
Every dog is unique. From the small, flat-faced Pug to the obesity-prone Labrador Retriever, Royal Canin Breed Health Nutrition is tailor-made to address the unique needs of pure breed dogs. These breed specific formulas benefit from the latest Royal Canin research on the selection of the best protein sources, unique nutrients and tailor-made kibbles.
Formulated for German Shepherd Puppies
Royal Canin's German Shepherd Puppy Dry Dog Food is designed exclusively for pure breed German Shepherd puppies from 8 weeks to 15 months.

Digestive performance: Digestive health is essential during German Shepherd puppies' growth period. Their digestive system is not yet fully developed and can't absorb nutrients in the same way adult dogs can. This formula takes into account digestive sensitivity common in German Shepherd puppies, and includes L.I.P. proteins to help maintain a balanced intestinal flora.
Bone & joint health: German Shepherd Puppy Dry Dog Food supports healthy bones and joints with appropriate calcium and phosphorus content. This exclusive formula also helps maintain an ideal weight.
Natural defenses: During the growth period, German Shepherd puppies' natural defenses are not yet fully developed. This formula includes an exclusive complex of antioxidants including vitamins E and C, lutein and taurine to maintain their natural defenses.

Exclusive Kibble
German Shepherds have a long, strong muzzle with equally strong teeth. The size, shape and texture of the kibble in German Shepherd Puppy Dry Dog Food is exclusively designed for easy pick up while also encouraging puppies to chew.

Why Royal Canin?
Over time, Royal Canin has accumulated vast knowledge about cats and dogs that only extensive research, scientific study and tireless talks with pet professionals, veterinarians and owners can provide. That knowledge led them to develop precise nutrition for cats and dogs. Each Royal Canin formula is tailored to pets' size, age, lifestyle and breed and contains more than 50 perfectly balanced nutrients for the most effective diet possible.
Their focus on science puts pets at the heart of the formulation process, choosing only ingredients that optimize the food's nutritional content. Royal Canin also continues to invest heavily in new technology to ensure their quality and food safety systems remain state-of-the-art, so pets can continue to benefit from the latest in food health and nutrition.

Worked for us!
By Jlaz27 on Feb 12, 2021
At our last vet visit in November, our vet recommended I switch my (at the time) 11mo GSD pup to this food from another food that he liked, but just didn't seem to be gaining any weight with. We gradually switched him over to this RC puppy food in January when we finally ran low on this original food, and he took to eating it right away. He appears to be gaining weight now (we haven't been back to the vet for a checkup yet) and he has continued to love this food. I look forward to moving him to the RC GSD adult food in a few months.

Best for shepherd mix puppy
By GingerinVA on Feb 2, 2021
Adopted a 10 mo white swiss shepherd / great pyrenees mix puppy- did a DNA test! Was having trouble w loose stools. Vet dewormed twice, put on antibiotic, prescription ID food...still loose. Tried this shepherd puppy food and voila ! Problem solved !. Only complaint is the price, but it works so we're in! And she likes it!

Not What I'd Expected For the Price
By JennyO on Jan 12, 2021
This food was recommended by the breeder. I expected it to be high, quality top of the line food. Especially, since they breed working line German Shepherds. Frankly, I was shocked to see two of the first five ingredients were corn. I will not be renewing my order. I have found another food, Orijen Large Puppy, I believe will be better suited for the type of diet I'd prefer to feed.

Food swap reception
By Sophie on Dec 7, 2020
I have a German Shepherd puppy who is very thin. She has been checked out 3 times by her vet, who says repeatedly that she is to small. Gave her some of this food, which caused her to attempt to get into the bag on her own. She had already eaten before it was delivered. To me this is great because before she was a picky eater. Glad I researched and found this food.

Best Puppy Food!!
By nnovoa1998 on Oct 5, 2020
I adopted Shiloh from a friend of my husbands', when she was given to us we were given a sample bag of Purina Beneful to take home. (She had diarrhea on the daily & couldn't figure it out.) She was lethargic, had low energy, no motivation to do any sort of activity for a little while. During our routine visit to our vet to get her shots taken care of we discussed her tummy problems. Found out GSD's are notoriously famous for tummy issues. Switched her over to the RC & absolutely no problems since! *beside the occasional mulch/stick eating* she's almost 8MO & we've had her on RC for about 4 months now. No issues whatsoever! Kibble is small
By Diane on Nov 19, 2020
I bought this puppy kibble because I heard Royal Canin had larger sized kibble that would be good for use for training. Unfortunately I guess that was only true for the adult dog food. I can still feed it to my dog, but for the price its not as high quality as I would have liked.

Anouk’s Favorite

My puppy, Anouk, loves this puppy food. She has such a shiny coat and a sparkle in her eyes. She has the energy needed to keep up with me on our walks. We love it.

Happy and Healthy
By Celeste on Sep 16, 2020
Royal Canin German Shepherd Puppy food was recommended by our vet. I was initially concerned about the "chicken by-product meal" so I decided to do a little research. Turns out you really want to stay away from "animal by-products" because the source can be from any animal, apparently even road kill. But, "chicken by-product meal" is just sourced from chicken...yes, the entire chicken and the unpleasant parts too. However, she loves the food, has a beautiful coat and honestly, if she were out in the wild and ran across a chicken, I have no doubt she would eat the whole thing, even the unpleasant parts so as long as she is healthy and enjoying it, we will continue with it.

I understand shipping times are long right now, but I kept getting notifications that my product would be shipped that day and didn’t get it until four days later.

Edie Loves It!
By April on Aug 7, 2020
Our rescue girl, Edie, wouldn’t eat this at first. I had to top it with a little bit of Blue Buffalo to entice her and even then she would eat around the Royal Canin. Now? I don’t know if she had to get settled with us or what, but within a two week time frame things changed! She practically INHALES the Royal Canin now. I don’t do anything to it—just put it in her bowl and she gulps it down. She will stick her head in the bag as I’m getting her meals ready, trying to snatch a bite haha! She was a little underweight when we adopted her so I’m feeding her a tiny bit more than the recommended amount...and I’m putting some kibble in her Kong toy because she now loves it so much.
