Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.

Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.

  • We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.
  • We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.
  • We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.
  • We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.

If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • New kitten loves this!

    By on Top 500 Contributor

I just adopted a kitten from the rescue I volunteer for. They suggested another brand of kitten food, but Tigerlily didn't really like it much. I bought a few single cans of different kitten food at my local store. She loved this one. So I purchased a case from Chewy. It's not really slices, but not pate. Sort of like it was put through a cheese grater, tiny morsels. I will definitely buy this again until the end of her kitten hood.

  • Kitten Likes It

    By on

Our one kitten is a fan of Royal Canin. We purchased this food because it was the food she ate prior to joining our family. The plan was to transition her to our homemade food. She no longer wants this food but our second kitten decided she likes it. Their primary food is the homemade food, but this is served as an added treat.

  • My kittens love this food

    By on

I have bought different types of wet food every now and then for my two kittens to try since they were 3 months old, this and fancy feast are the only two they love and would finish. It's a little expensive but I think it's worth it as long as the kittens love it. And Chewy seems to have the inventory available all the time compared to its competitors.

`I just got a 5 month old kitten and wanted to make sure I start her off on high quality food. She loves this stuff! As far as she's concerned, there is nothing better than what comes out of this can!

  • A favorite!

    By on

My 2 little boys, 4mos and 5mos, love this variety. They have been eating the soft loaf variety since I adopted each of them at 8 weeks of age. Now that they are old enough to have other options in food, they LOVE the thin slices in gravy!

  • Great for picky eaters

    By on

I have a picky adult cat who has trouble keeping on weight because he's ill and this is one of the only foods he will eat. It's has a few sketchy ingredients (pork plasma? Just to name one) but I'm still giving it 4 stars because at least he's eating SOMETHING finally.

  • recommend for kittens who will not eat

    By on Top 25 Contributor

The ingredients are not what I would feed my cats. However, my picky rescue kitten loves this stuff. Complete with meat and meal by products. Using pork and pork plasm is not my first choice . So if your kitten won't or does not like the top shelf products try this. Royal is also not cheap. However, the ingredients are sketchy. When she gets older, she will transition to Wellness or Halo
