Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

FAQ

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

    Jury is still out

Sadie is a Great Pyrenees mix who was 80 pounds at 1 1/2 and at 2 was over 122. We've tried several "diet" dry foods (none of which she was wild about). The Royal Canin received her approval when we first tried it but she is now uninterested. She also gained a pound -- though to be fair, the grandkids were here so she may have had help with that. We will cut back a bit from the recommended amount and see how it goes. Royal Canin has a chart on how much to give a dog for weight loss vs. weigh maintenance. The kibble is large. The bag is vacuum sealed to minimize waste. It has helped some of her tummy troubles. Now if we can just get her to eat enough to be satisfied and not beg for treats Sadie is a Great Pyrenees mix who was 80 pounds at 1 1/2 and at 2 was over 122. 5 stars absolutely!

    By on

My one lab gained some weight, and my vet suggested this product. And she absolutely loves it! I'm mixing it in with the Royal Canin for labs that she was on, and she has lost 5 lbs. in 3 weeks! This product makes her feel full, and she's content and more playful then ever before! I would recommend this product if you have a dog like mine whose more on the laid back side and doesn't burn off those calories like an active dog. Thank you Chewy!!!!

    The jury is still out!

    By on

I would love to say this is a great product, its purpose being to help my dog lose weight. The jury is still out on the results, however. Just as in humans, it takes a long time to lose those extra pounds! On the plus side, my dog does like the food and has no adverse reactions to the change of diet.

    My Dog Loves This

I changed from another brand due to veteranary posts listing unhealthy. This is one of 4 brands they recommended. After slowly changing her food, she eagerly tells me when it's time to eat.
