On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why Pure Breed Cats Need Tailored Nutrition

Even though pedigree cats are usually kept indoors, they may have breed-specific needs that go beyond the needs of other indoor cats. It's important to address those needs with specialized nutrition. When choosing a formula, keep in mind the unique characteristics of your breed, including:

Face and Jaw: Pure breed cats come in many different jaw shapes and sizes. Some breeds have broad jaws (like Ragdolls) while others have large, square-shaped jaws (like Maine Coons) or flat, short jaws (like Persians). The jaw type and even biting patterns can affect how a breed picks up kibble.

Skin Types: Not all cat breeds have the same body type. Some have long and muscular physiques while others have imposing statures that can put strain on joints. Precise levels of key nutrients help support a breed's unique needs for their body type.

Distinctive Coats: There's more to a coat than meets the eye. From different hair lengths to undercoats, each pure breed cat has a unique coat with unique needs.

Breed Specific Formulas

Every cat is unique - especially pure breed cats. After years of research and partnering with a network of veterinarians and breeders, Royal Canin has developed a line of tailor-made formulas to suit the needs of pure breed cats perfectly.

Formulated for Maine Coons

Royal Canin's Maine Coon Dry Cat Food is designed for Maine Coon cats over 15 months old.

Healthy heart: Maine Coon Dry Cat Food contains nutrients such as taurine, EPA and DHA, which may contribute to cardiac health.

Bone & joint health: Maine Coons are the tallest and heaviest of pure breed cats. Their imposing stature can put a strain on joints. This formula is enriched with Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) to help maintain healthy bones and joints.

Healthy skin & coat: Maine Coons have a dense coat with a fine undercoat. This formula includes a combination of amino acids, vitamins and fatty acids (Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids) to help maintain skin and coat health.

Exclusive Kibble

Maine Coon Dry Cat Food features a king-size tailor-made kibble that's adapted to Maine Coons' unique, large squared-shaped jaw, encouraging them to chew.

Why Royal Canin?

Over time, Royal Canin has accumulated vast knowledge about cats and dogs that only extensive research, scientific study and tireless talks with pet professionals, veterinarians and owners can provide. That knowledge led them to develop precise nutrition for cats and dogs. Each Royal Canin formula is tailored to pets' size, age, lifestyle and breed and contains more than 50 perfectly balanced nutrients for the most effective diet possible.

Their focus on science puts pets at the heart of the formulation process, choosing only ingredients that optimize the food's nutritional content. Royal Canin also continues to invest heavily in new technology to ensure their quality and food safety systems remain state-of-the-art, so pets can continue to benefit from the latest in food health and nutrition.

  • Great For a Growing Monster...

    By on

My Main Coon Mix isn't even six months and he is already 8lbs!! he loves the snow and goes through kitten food too fast. I mix this cat food with the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Development Kitten Dry food I received from the vet; that does the trick. His coat looks great, his never ending hunger is under control, and he loves crunching on the big pieces. As always my order gets to my small time quickly. Thank you for making it so easy!

  • Specifically formulated for Maine Coons

    By on

This was described as less likely to be gobbled down quickly by Maine Coons because of the larger size of the kibble. I have two Maine Coons, one who is overweight, so she did not get to sample this, but my male Maine Coon gave up on the large size kibble. I have a small male of a mixed breed who would not even try this food. However, this might have been because all three cats are used to regular sized kibbles.

  • HUGE crunchies!

    By on

I have two 13 yr old Maine Coons. They eat Royal Canin Selective dry food for fussy cats and love it, but my male has lost significant weight with no known medical reason. I was looking for anything that he would eat in addition to his regular food. He loves the Maine Coon dry food. The pieces are huge but he crunches them just like the description says they will. My female loves them too but she tends to swallow without difficulty despite their size.

  • The Best of the Best

    By on

Royal canin delivers only the best for those special breeds. My maine coon has been on this food since he was a kitten. This is the only food he craves. He picks out the royal canin apart from the other food i mix it with (to bulk it up and save some money). He absolutely loves it and i would recommend it to anyone.

  • Size of food way to large

    By on

The size of the bits are way too large for my Maine Coon cats. I tried to break them up a little bit so they could eat them, but that made a crumbly mess. My cats seemed to like the flavor . .but they are just too big. Will not buy again.

  • Our Maine Coons Love it

    By on

A few years ago we quit getting food because our oldest Maine Coon could not longer chew the larger food balls. He has since passed and we ordered via Chewy and our fur babies love, love this food. We use it as a snack and they ask for it constantly.

  • Good for my indoor cat

    By on

I like this dry cat food because the kibbles are large. My cat is not a Maine Coon, but with ordinary cat food, she gulps it down whole, and then pukes. This forces her to chew it up. She's doing well with it.

All of my cats love this food. This is a healthy food for Maine Coons. I have a Blue Point Wedgie Siamese also. She loves this food also. None of them throw up from it.

  • Too hard for my kitty

    By on

My cat is part Maine Coon ( rescue kitty) and loves the wet Maine Coon food so I thought would try the dry. He won't eat it, because too hard? Doesn't like flavor? Don't know for sure I did crush some and he ate some.

  • Maine Coon Approved

    By on

My Maine Coon enjoys this food compared with other, more expensive, dry cat food he has been given. The larger kibble prevents him from scarfing his food and later throwing it up. I also like that it has ingredients that are beneficial for older/ larger cats.
