Small dogs need more than just a small kibble. They need more energy than big dogs, and they have a shorter and more intense growth period. Plus, they typically live longer than large dogs, and have a more finicky appetite. Whether we’re talking about their bodies or their lifestyle, small dogs are a little bit different from the rest of the canine world. Fortunately, Royal Canin Mini is distinctly different, too. And because of their small size, small dogs have greater energy needs than large dogs, but they also can have a tendency to become overweight. That's why there is Mini Weight Care!

Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. My dog really seems to enjoy his new food, too soon to tell if it is helping him to lose weight though but were feeling hopeful. We love having our food delivered from Chewy, we are 25 minutes from the nearest pet store so it is really convenient having it sent right to our home, I recommend Chewy to all the Fur Mom's and Dad's :)

When my pug Snoopy weight out at 35 lb I knew I had to change his food believe me I have tried many pricey brands. I purchased Royal Canin 5 weeks ago and I have noticed a difference in his energy level .He loves the food ,and I have also noticed his skin is getting looser ,getting more winkles for him is a good thing ,I know he must have lost at least three pounds .I am sure he will continue.I am so happy I bought Royal Canin for him ,wish I would have before .But even the big fancy pet store s don't carry the spec variety that Chewy does .Thank you Chewy and Royal Canin for such a great product.Happy pug in Indiana

As an owner of a dachshund you have to know that they gain weight quickly and that can be a little problem with his back. My vet recommended me this food and thanks God is working. My chubby fur is keeping his weight and I have a peace of mine.

  • Best dog food

I have an over weight 13 yr old Lhasa and Royal Canin has helped him lose weight. I also feed it to my 3 yr old maltipoo. Many of the other foods have a very high fat content. The pet stores near me only sell the small 2.5 lb bags. Using chewy.com allows me to buy the largest bag. It saves me money and delivery is super fast.
