We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.
How are Royal Canin diets preserved?
All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.
Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?
We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?
Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?
Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.
How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?
Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.
How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?
Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.
Why Pure Breed Dogs Need Tailored Nutrition
From their personalities to their distinctive physiologies, pure breed dogs have unique characteristics that make them sought-after and beloved companions. When choosing a formula, it's important to keep in mind the unique characteristics of your breed including:
Face and Jaw: All dogs fall into two basic jaw types: Brachycephalic or mesocephalic. Breeds with short, broad muzzles (like Bulldogs) are examples of a brachycephalic jaw. Breeds with a longer muzzle (like Labrador Retrievers) are examples of mesocephalic breeds. The jaw type, and even biting patterns can affect how a breed picks up kibble.
Skin Types: The skin's most important function is to serve as a barrier of protection-but not all breeds have the same skin type. From wrinkled and folded (which traps heat and moisture) to sensitive or water resistant, precise levels of key nutrients help to support a breed's unique skin health needs.
Distinctive Coats: There's more to a coat than meets the eye. From the color and texture to undercoats, each pure breed dog has a unique coat with unique needs.
Breed Specific Formulas
Every dog is unique. From the small, flat-faced Pug to the obesity-prone Labrador Retriever, Royal Canin Breed Health Nutrition is tailor-made to address the unique needs of pure breed dogs. These breed specific formulas benefit from the latest Royal Canin research on the selection of the best protein sources, unique nutrients and tailor-made kibbles.
Formulated for Pugs
Royal Canin's Pug Adult Dry Dog Food is designed exclusively for pure breed Pugs over 10 months.

Healthy skin: Appropriate food plays an important part in maintaining the quality of the skin and coat. Pug Adult Dry Dog Food supports the skin's role as a barrier with an exclusive complex of nutrients, and maintains skin and coat health with EPA and DHA.
Muscle tone: Pug Adult Dry Dog Food contains L-Carnitine and helps maintain muscle tone with an appropriate protein content.
Ideal weight: Excess weight gain can affect the health of Pugs. A balanced meal is therefore necessary for their health. This formula helps maintain an ideal weight.

Exclusive Kibble
Pugs have a large, round head with a short square muzzle. Their characteristic jaw and very thick lips make it difficult to pick up food. Pug Adult Dry Dog Food features a cloverleaf-shaped kibble designed to make it easier for Pugs to pick up and encourages them to chew.

Why Royal Canin?
Over time, Royal Canin has accumulated vast knowledge about cats and dogs that only extensive research, scientific study and tireless talks with pet professionals, veterinarians and owners can provide. That knowledge led them to develop precise nutrition for cats and dogs. Each Royal Canin formula is tailored to pets' size, age, lifestyle and breed and contains more than 50 perfectly balanced nutrients for the most effective diet possible.
Their focus on science puts pets at the heart of the formulation process, choosing only ingredients that optimize the food's nutritional content. Royal Canin also continues to invest heavily in new technology to ensure their quality and food safety systems remain state-of-the-art, so pets can continue to benefit from the latest in food health and nutrition.

My pug loved it!
By Bboopku on Feb 10, 2021
I was unsure about spending the money on this specialty-breed food, but I am so glad that I did. From the moment I put it down in her dish, she loved it and licked the bowl up and down the hallway on day one. Three weeks later, she is still loving this food and the red patches on her skin are improving, and there were no digestive issues at all. My pug will be on this food for the rest of her life!

My pugs love it!
By Jade on Jan 16, 2021
I tried switching brands about a year ago and my dogs hated the new food. I switched back to royal canin small dog and made this change when the small dog food went out of stock due to COVID. My dogs transitioned to this food very well and really like it. My only beef with it is that the ingredients are basically the same as the small breed and it is way more expensive. I really hope I can transition my dogs to a better food in the future because I know this is full of fillers and by-products. However, Royal Canin is a brand my vet heavily recommends and it's hard to switch foods when I know they like this one. Anyway, they've been on it for about 3 months so I guess we'll see!

My pug does not seem to like this food.
By KarMarNel on Feb 18, 2021
I am reluctant to give this product lesser stars because my pug does not like it. My dogs are extremely picky. It is very hard to get a food they will eat. Nothing appears to be wrong with the food. It seems fresh. I thought I would try something specific to each dog, but that didn't work out for me.

Why would anyone use this?
By BZOO on Jan 15, 2021 Top 250 Contributor
It contains no actual food, simply fillers and chemical vitamins. Royal Canin is scamming people so badly, it should be against the law. Wonder what their markup is...400% from actual cost? I love my dogs, so I will feed them real FOOD, thanks but no thanks.

Wasn't sure which food to feed my pug. I am glad Royal Canin has food just for certain breeds, and not just for any dog.

one and only!
By Bubbles1 on Aug 10, 2020
Been feeding my 10 year old Frenchie this since we got her. The breeder used the bulldog specific kind, but this kibble size worked better for our dog. Never had a problem with this food and have followed the recommended serving size to maintain a good weight.

No more scratching
By Wrong on Sep 7, 2020
So far it seems to make slight difference in his pug acne around his face. He needs wipes though too. He was on the canin Pug puppy food, but I just put him on the regular green Canin for adults.
