Transition Instructions
We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.
Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?
We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?
Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way. We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase. We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food. We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers. We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

Can this be given to a puppy as young as 2 1/2 weeks?
Answer by • Jun 23, 2019
Puppies less than 3 weeks old should be fed Mother's Milk. We do not recommend feeding Starter Mousse to puppies under 3 weeks old.
My puppy is a Shih Tzu born on March 30th. Mom weaned the puppies during the 5th week. I have the puppy now and she is doing great, is this wet food recommended for this situation and no longer getting mother’s milk? If so how long should I give this to her?
Answer by • May 25, 2020
This recipe is formulated to meet the nutrition and energy needs of mothers during the third trimester and through lactation, and weaning puppies through two months of age (8 weeks).
What is the shelf life of royal canin starter mousse?
Answer by • Apr 11, 2021
Manufacturers establish “best by” dates to ensure the safety of your dog. Look for the expiration date on the bottom of your food bag or cans, and plan to use the food before that date. In general, unopened dry pet foods have a shelf life of one year, while unopened canned foods are good for two years from the date of manufacture. Canned food, when stored properly, should last through the manufacturer’s indicated expiration date. Once opened, wet food should be refrigerated and consumed within two days. If left out at room temperature, it should be discarded after two hours.
My puppy is 4 weeks old & 1 lb for how many weeks do I feed him the Royal Canin Starter Mousse Mother & Babydog Canned food?
Answer by • Dec 31, 2020
Starter mousse is formulated to support the increased energy and nutritional needs of the mother from the last 1/3 of gestation through lactation, and very young puppies from weaning up to 2 months of age.
This is the best and easiest way to wean toy breed puppies, who aren't particularly eager to eat. Even little 3-4 week olds will dive right in. It makes weaning so easy.

Great for Mom's and Newborns
We are helping to whelp our Dachshunds litter of puppies. The food was great for her while she was pregnant and while nursing the pups. Now that the puppies are almost 4 weeks old we are using it to teach the puppies to eat and it's a perfect consistency for them and their tiny mouths. Great starter food!

My puppies love this!
I use this as a transition from formula to solid foods for my puppies. It is far better than any other canned (or dry) puppy food for transitioning puppies to solid foods. My puppies love it! None of my puppies have had any digestive problems while using the Royal Canin Starter Food.

Great starter food for your puppy!
We got our puppy at 6 weeks old and still giving her pet formula with kibble watered down into a thin mush. I gradually added this food into her meals and she loved it. It is a great healthy wet food to add to your puppy's diet to help with the weaning process.

Our pups love this food !
Although this canned Mousse is costly, it is a great starter for our Standard Poodle Puppies and Brittanys. We can begin feeding them a little earlier and it gets the heat off Mom with big litters. Seems to be a great food and works well for us . Mom eats what pups do not and we are off to a great start. Have used it for MANY Years. Thank you !
