Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

FAQ

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

  • All seven of my cats LOVE this and the chubby ones are losing weight, fast

    By on

This is a miracle food. I have 7 cats, and three of them got chubby after being fixed. The most troubling part was how their personalities changed, and they went from being energetic feisty kitties to couch potatoes. Harley wouldn't even budge when I tossed her a Greenie, which was her favorite treat. She'd just watch it hit the floor and wouldn't move. I was seriously worried and thought about taking her to the vet. Instead, I researched diet kitty food and after reading the good reviews, I bought some of this. After only 2-3 weeks on this food, you could see the weight coming off, and they began to act like their former playful selves. Harley is back to standing on her hind legs to catch Greenies in her mouth, mid-air. The only problem with this food is the other cats love it too, so I have to be creative at feeding time, playing musical bowls and closing doors to make sure the other cats don't gobble this up before my dieting kitties can eat it. … more

  • Seems to be Working

    By on

Finally a food that is low enough in calories for my cat to lose weight. I feed my kitty one can a day. She definitely likes the food. So far she has lost 1/3 of a pound. Now we have 1.8 lbs. more to go. Cats have to lose weight slowly, so it will take a while yet. I'm glad I found this. So many of the other same size cans of cat food have so many calories, that my poor kitty would only get about 1/2 to 2/3 can of food a day. That's not much at all. I'm pleased so far. I'm sure my kitty will feel better but, of course, she would like to eat so much more. She is an eating machine.

  • Ultra light cat food

I’m told my 4 year kitten seriously needs to loose weight. I ordered this produce and the perfect weight liver & chicken entree. First I introduced this item and Lady refused to eat it. So I began mixing it with another brand she’s been eating since she was a little fur ball. Then I began to add in the perfect weight liver & chicken I entree. I’m at the point now where I’m omitting the food kitty grew up on and have been mixing the 2 Royal Canin products. She eats the combination and I hope to gradually reduce the mixing.

  • Very happy with this!

    By on

I feed my cats a mix of wet and dry food. They graze on the dry (Royal Canin Selective) but go crazy for the canned. Even waking me up in the morning before my alarm goes off. I had been feeding them Blue Buffalo Wilderness but when I brought them to the vet for a check up discovered that they needed to trim down. The vet's assistant told me that Blue Wilderness is basically the cheesecake of cat food. I got a couple of cans of this at Petsmart to see if they would like it and they love it. It almost seems like they love it more. So I'm very happy because I know that it's lighter in calories and I have always been a fan of Royal Canin. And, as usual, Chewy is the most affordable.

Great food. My cat loves it. Costs much less to purchase a case from Chewy, rather than by the can at Petco and it is delivered to my door!

  • Approved by 2 very hungry seniors needing to lose weight.

I have a bonded 13-year-old mama and her one and only 12-year-old "kitten" who need to lose some serious weight after being spoiled a bit too much by my mom. Since she has given the 2 to me I was worried they would feel cheated because they weren't getting Fancy Feast 4 times a day but they both love this diet food. That's the key first step!

  • My Cats don't like it

    By on

Was hoping to avoid paying a higher price for the prescription food at my vet. It could just be that my cats are picky, but my 5 cats don't like this even mixed with their favorite Fancy Feast or Little Friskies soft food. They will eat the prescription Royal Canin soft food with high fiber/low cals, but not this.
