Can anyone tell me the difference between the the Royal Canin Dental and the Royal Canin Oral Care food?
Answer by ChewyFeb 05, 2018
The main difference between this formula and the Royal Canin Oral Care Dry Cat Food is that the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Dental Dry Cat Food promotes a healthy urinary system with Royal Canin Urinary S/O Index® to prevent the formation of harmful crystals, and requires a prescription.

Cat wont touch it

my male cat, just turned 3 just wont touch it, he got a few teeth removed so its probably too big for his mouth to chew, since he also has stomatitis, so he just wont touch it at all, but my other kitty with no dental problems and all her teeth, same age, eats them, so kind of a waste? cant say i recommend, but i dont say its bad? cause i just dont know lol!

Proper use

For those complaining about the kibble size, it is supposed to be large to promote chewing and it scaling of tarter off of the teeth. Also I’ve read reviews saying ppl mix it into their other food, that’s counterintuitive. It is meant to be fed separately from the cats regular diet to make sure they are throughly chewing each kibble and not swallowing anything whole. Recommended feeding as an after dinner treat

Lucky that my cat will eat this

She's been prescribed this cat food since seemingly always has gingivitis. I feel lucky that she'll eat it because this only comes in chicken and she normally prefers fish. She seems to enjoy this and eats it readily, so it's great. It's expensive, but also extremely effective. Her breath is fresh as a daisy. It's crazy to hear, but true!

Big Pieces of food.

I purchased this from my veterinarian. My cats love it, me not so much. The pieces are big, so big that they are leaving a mess of crumbs in the bowl and surrounding the bowl. Obviously they are wasting a lot of the food and making a mess. I will probably mix it in with another dry food and hopefully avoid so much waste and mess. I do repeat though, my cats LOVE it.

These are absolutely giant

Uploading a photo for comparison. Left food is Royal Canin kitten, middle is Royal Canin Urinary so and right is Royal Canin dental. None of my four cats can eat this food. It looks like it is meant as dog food. Feels potentially dangerous as a choking hazard. I can not fathom why Royal Canin did not make this more reasonably sized for felines.

Really helps with tartar build up!

I was really happy when various vendors came out with specialized dental foods a few years ago. The dental treats offered by many companies didn't really seem to do much for my plaque-building cat so I started brushing his teeth every other day, as well. The non-RX dental food I tried at first really helped with the tartar, for which I was grateful. This, plus brushing, kept my cat from needing a procedural cleaning for 3 years. Then, for no apparent reason, all four cats stopped liking that particular brand. Hard to know what changed. My vet recommended trying the Royal Canin Dental, instead, which I did. It's quite similar in size and also helps with tartar build up. It has become the most requested food by all four cats even though some of them really don't need it. What makes it so attractive? I'm not sure. I feed my cats other dry foods, as well, and put the Royal Canin Dental chunks on top. They all have their favorites, and generally will eat some of each, but the one that always needs replacing is the RC Dental. It's only been three months but I'm hoping the attraction will last. You will need a Rx from your vet for this RC Dental. Chewy will attempt to contact them if you provide your vet's details. One vet just approved it via phone while my new vet wrote me a Rx which I photographed and forwarded to Chewy. Highly recommended for your plaque-building cats!

My cat likes it!

My cat likes this vet recommended food. I hope it will help keep her teeth clean to avoid any more extractions.

My picky kitties love it, and their breath is sweet

My vet specialized in veterinary medicine, and she said my last old boy essentially died from gum disease. She convinced me to start my kitties licking poultry-flavored toothpaste off of a pet toothbrush from kitten hood, and they now expect if I am going to brush my teeth, they get their turn too. Maite is coming up on two years old, which is still young, but the freshness of her breath is rather marked. This is good for me, because she wants to groom my face all the time, and I don’t want to rebuff her. The fact that her breath is so fresh really helps. My old boy used this kibble, so I had some sitting around. My young girls think this kibble is the best thing around. They hate anything new, so I was shocked (I’ve been giving them what they were being fed as babies). Now we have seamlessly moved from kitten kibble to a complete adult kibble, and I couldn’t be happier.

Bacon Bits

My cats love these, thus we call them bacon bits. We mix one part of this to two parts another food, but sometimes they eat out the bacon bits and beg for more. :) Tartar scores have been low.
