Feeding guidelines are general recommendations only. The amount of food required by your cat may vary above or below that listed in this feeding guide. In consultation with your veterinarian it is recommended that you weight your cat 4 - 6 weeks after starting a new diet in order to adjust food intake to maintain or achieve an optimal body weight and body condition score. Consult your veterinarian for specific feeding guidelines for your cat. This diet is formulated to be complete and balanced. It is unnecessary to feed leftover foods, kitchen scraps or additional supplements. It is recommended that your cat be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day. Ensure fresh drinking water is available at all times. Store this product in a cool, dry place.
Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

This food has been helpful for Wilson's constipation issues. However, I will not feed a diet consisting only of dry food therefore By the time we are halfway through the bag Wilson is no longer interested in the food, and it also is not as effective.I relate it to eating a 1/2 bag of pretzels and then they get stale. I have tried putting smaller amounts in a container as to not open the bag as frequently, and that did not work any better. If RC made a 4 or 5 pound bag it would be very helpful. Chewy of course, did an excellent job of shipping quickly as usual.
My 19-year-old cat started having extreme constipation, resulting in several visits to the ER vet as well as her normal vet. I switched her to wet food and gave her lactolose periodically, but she still had trouble pooping and started losing weight. Poor baby was miserable. She was on prescription kidney wet food due to early-stage kidney issues, but I asked my vet about other food options, and she suggested this one. I read the reviews and decided to give it a go despite the high price. It's been three weeks, and she's doing GREAT on this food! I mean, big 'ol normal poops every day instead of the rock-hard pebble poops that she used to drop all over the house. I'm so thankful!! (Just be sure you order the correct food. There's another GI food by Royal Canin with almost identical packaging, but it's not the "Fiber Response" food, so just double-check before you order!
My older cat was having a ton of digestive issues. Really runny stool and litter box problems (he was pooping in shoes). After switching originally to a similar food he got better, but after then switching to this one he has normal poops and no longer gets sick after using the bathroom. I love this food for my cats so much, although my other younger cats that eat it too have massive human sized poops, which is the only con.
I have a neutered male cat that kept getting UTI's and, when stressed, would have bloody stools. He was on the RC S/O prescription diet prior to this but it did not help with his stress and resulting stomach issues. When my vet told me to try this, there was an immediate improvement. He has been on this consistently for 3-4 years now and LOVES it. No UTI's, no more bloody stools even through 2 moves, and he is a healthy weight and looks good. He will not touch any other kibble! I have two other cats that eat regular kibble and he has zero interest in it. This has worked wonders for my cat and I will continue purchasing it. I hope it never changes because the formula works so well.
My cat Timmy has struggled with constipation for years. He gets miralax and pumpkin with his wet urinary diet food and that has done wonders for him over the years, but can be difficult to dose correctly. After his PU surgery a few months ago, I was discussing his constipation problems with his surgeon who suggested this food. The first two bags I ordered helped Timmy IMMENSELY. Regular poops, good consistency, etc. Well my most recent bag arrived and I noticed the food looked different. It’s much lighter in color than before. And now Timmy’s constipation is back with a vengeance. We’re on two enemas in as many weeks now. This dry food is really the only variable I can think of in his diet that could be causing this issue. Very disappointed.
My cat needs this fiber response food or he cannot poop and it results in emergency room visits. It is suspected he has IBD based on an ultrasound. I have to mix in about 25% of a regular sensitive stomach formula though or else he gets diarrhea from too much fiber. Also, he’s been on this food for over two years, but now that he’s gotten older and had a couple teeth extracted, he has trouble with the size and shape of this kibble. I have to grind it in the blender and make it into smaller pieces and then sift out the dust. A smaller disc shape like Hill’s offers would be great instead of these larger three-pointed pieces. Also, a smaller bag option like 4 lbs would be nice as well. I only feed this to one cat and I fear that 8.8 lbs goes stale before I can finish the bag, especially in the humid summer months. Overall though, this food has saved my cat’s life. He likes the taste too. He eats it as soon as I put it down.
Thanks to this product my cat Tony is feeling great again. It looked like my only alternative to help Tony was colon surgery and I did not want to put him through that. So I am so thankful for this cat food!
We have been trying everything for Gitzie's constipation, and nothing worked. Then Dr. Ben recommended Royal Canin Adult Gastrointestinal Fiber Response Dry Cat Food. Dr. Ben mentioned it would be expensive, and it was; but it was worth every penny! (I'm on S.S., so I don't say that lightly). I don't think I've seen Gitz look this good in years!
My cat, Milo, has been stable on this formula for years--except for when RC changed the formula back in 2020. Then Megacolon returned with a vengeance. Six months of enemas and attempts to find something comparable. Finally, they changed the formula back--he was fine. NOW they have changed the formula AGAIN. This time, I had surgery and so didn't see the changed shape of the kibble. Milo almost died, needed intense care, new medication, a completely changed diet (canned I/D food). The "real" formula is triangle-shaped and it works really well. But twice they have changed the kibble to a flat, disc shape, and that doesn't work at all for megacolon. I'm stuck with several bags of expen$ive Rx cat food on top of almost losing Milo. Buyer Beware!
My poor kitty Monty, who was only three years old when this started, was terribly, PAINFULLY constipated! About every four days his bowel couldn't contain any more, but he was terrified of the litter box because he thought it was causing his pain. The result was him tearing around the house, trying to run from the pain and dropping stool everywhere. Now he's a normal cat who uses his box and enjoys life. I'm eternally grateful!
