After some research and my veterinary’s recommendation, I chose Royal Canin Hepatic kibble for my little 11 pounds Dorkie. My vet sells the competitive brand so this spoke volumes in regards to my dog’s medical needs. I was concerned the kibble bites would be too large but they’re not. She crunches through them just fine, perhaps because in the past she’s had practice snacking on her big brother’s food and he weighs in at 110 pounds. She loves the taste! Chewy’s deliveries are always timely, even with the vet’s approval. Thank you Chewy!
The product arrived very quickly. My only complaint is the lack of size choices of the bag. The only choice was a 25lb bag and the two dogs only weigh 8 pounds. It will expire long before they can eat all of it. With that said, the cost is over $5.00 per pound so it’s an expensive waste.
Per the request of our veterinarian, we purchased the prescription Royal Canine Hepatique for our picky Shih Tzu. It has been a challenge to get him to eat anything besides the stuff that the vet says he should not eat, but we are having a bit of success with this dog food. It's a game of ignoring the pleading eyes and the sad whining and encouraging him to eat the hard food. Because he is just a 16-pounder, the larger kibble was hard for him to handle, so we have begun to break it up a bit for him. Wish us luck!
We previously used a different brand of prescription dog food for liver problems but her enzymes kept going up and she didn’t like the flavor. Our dog loves the flavor of Royal Canin Hepatic and it’s also working for her liver. It’s pricey but the bag is huge and lasts a long time.
Looking at all the pictures associated with this product one should be able to think the kibble was small. NOT SO. My 16 year old rat terrier is missing half his teeth and could not chew this stuff. I called royal canin and they pretty much blew me off. Told me to soak it in water. I told them they have the dies for the chihuahua food they make, would it kill them to use them for the smaller dogs with liver problems. Pretty much useless advice as the vet said the kibble helps exercise the teeth and gums as well as scrape off some of the dirt on the teeth. Now I have to put some in the food processor and buzz it down to acceptable size. Very time consuming. Will try to find another brand that uses smaller bits.
This has kept my medically fragile dog healthy for years. It isn't my dog's first choice taste wise but she tolerates it and maintains her weight. My biggest complaint is the reusable zipper portion of the bag breaks 100% of the time (I've been buying this food for years). When I spend this much on dog food, that's dissapointing. Please please fix the bag issue! (For the large bag)
I have a very fragile little boy (pomeranian) with multiple health problems due to amoral and ethicless breeding practices. His diet has had to be changed multiple times on an emergency basis. Y'all have responded to these demanding changes so wonderfully by getting his new diet to him incredibly fast. Without the necessary changes, he would have died. Literally. Thank you for saving my baby by ensuring he had what he needed when he needed it!!!! P.S. He is also my service dog, and has gotten me 6.5 years past MY life expectancy. I owe him my life. Thank you for helping me save his.
Royal Canin has products that help our little dog. Plus loves them.
I wasn't sure my fussy eater would enjoy the change in her diet. I was delighted that my miniature schnauzer likes the taste of Royal Canin Hepatic Dry Dog Food!
This food has been a lifesaver for my pets. My oldest is 15 and he still runs and plays. But really the review is about the amazing customer service I get from Chewy
