About Royal Canin Dermatology For Cats

Worried About Your Cat’s Skin Health?

Skin health concerns are common and can appear anywhere on your cat’s body. Your veterinarian is the expert on your cat’s health, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best solutions for your pet. This specialized expertise is why Royal Canin works closely with veterinarians to develop formulas that support skin health.

Common Causes of Skin Health Concerns

Environmental Sensitivities

Pollen, plants and dust are environmental factors that can trigger an immune response in some cats.

Food Sensitivities

Your veterinarian may recommend a diet elimination trial to help determine if your pet has a sensitivity to certain proteins in his current diet.

Parasites

Your cat can pick up external parasites such as mites, fleas, ticks and lice from contaminated sources, both indoors and out.

Infection

Kittens, older cats, and cats that have recently been ill may be more susceptible to bacterial infections that can lead to skin health concerns.

How Can Nutrition Help?

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin Dermatology formula for your cat. These special formulations can:

Aid digestive health by regulating movement through the GI tract and supporting balanced digestive flora

Support the skin’s natural protective barrier

Aid cellular health with a complex blend of antioxidants.

Promote healthy skin and coat by providing long chain omega-3 fatty acids in the diet

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

How palatable is this food for a picky cat?

Does this come in wet food?
Answer by ChewyJan 01, 2020
At this time, the manufacturer does not make a wet food version of this formula.

Dies this product cause cat to drink a lot of water and gain weight. My cat is drinking a lot and gained weight.
Answer by ChewyJun 19, 2020
Royal Canin wouldn’t expect this formula to cause increased thirst. It is a bit higher in calories and fat so weight gain may be possible if fed in larger amounts.

My cat likes wet food, so can the hydrolyzed kibble be softened with water?
Answer by ChewyMar 25, 2019
Water can be added to this formula. Just take about a ¼ cup of filtered water and add it to the top of the bowl of kibble in order to moisten and enhance the flavor of the pet food.

Please don't feed your cat this

My vet (as most do) recommended this when my cat was getting really itchy from his last food. They said that he's probably sensitive to ingredients and put him on this because it's "the best for sensitive cats". After switching to this he eventually started itching constantly and would at times end up with big, sometimes bleeding bald spots-- something that he never had with his previous food. Realizing that it wasn't sustainable I trekked into researching cat food and realized too that the ingredients in this one as with most vet-backed foods are junk. Barely a good amount of actual meat protein and high in carbs which explains why he was inching towards the obese category (he was fine until starting this food, I kept him on it for too long). Long story short I switched him to Tiki Cat Born Carnivore dry food as it's high in protein and relatively low carbs for a dry food. He's finally stopped itching and hasn't had bald spots or tufts of hair falling out since. His weight is going down rather than up too, though I'd also recommend looking into proper weight loss and scales if you need to get your cat to lose weight since losing weight too quickly can be bad too. Looks like I'm in for a long weight loss journey just cause I put him on Royal Canin.

No more vomits!

After a recent visit to the vet, my three year old cat was diagnosed with IBD after ruling out pancreatitis, blockage, etc. He’s been a chronic vomiter for the last year, and this was a particularly bad flare up that lasted nearly a week and got to the point where he couldn’t keep anything down for more than 20 minutes. The vet recommended a hydrolyzed protein diet, I found this on Chewy, got it THE NEXT DAY (amazing, btw) and he hasn’t vomited since. Stopped all sickness in an instant! I initially mixed it in with his old food (purina pro sensitive stomach and skin) but he took an immediate preference to this kibble and we haven’t looked back.

Chewy Saves the Day!

My pet was recently diagnosed with a food allergy. I decided to order from the vets direct website and chewy and see who was quicker. While I'm still waiting for my other order from the other site, chewy contacted the vet, got approval, and delivered in less than a week! I honestly love chewy! They do a phenomenal job. Oh...and kitty loves the food too! Food allergy issues be gone!

Good food

The special diet food itself is great. Helps my moms cats. Some hiccups in the past with the RX needed to order the food but all worked out now. Most recent bag arrived with a hole and customer service was prompt to offer an exchange. My mom needed the food so we just kept it as it. No other issues. We use auto ship as well for this item. Helps saves a little considering the price.

Luvs it

My precious Chanel Faith unfortunately has chronic diarrhea. This food works 4 her lil' tummy. I even give it 2 her as treats, since I have another precious baby that's use 2 getting treats, but she loves it. So thankful! I also have 2 give her Nutramax Proviable when it really acts up. It is the only product that works 4 her .

Food allergy

I understand it may take 8-12 weeks to know if the food helps with allergies. Annie did like the taste immediately so I did not have to transition from her current food. Her like for the food may dwindle but for now it’s fine. She has a small amount of regurgitation. It’s too soon to rate for the purpose intended.

Helpful

From my initial contact with Chewy on Facebook to delivery of product, everyone has been so helpful and friendly! I didn’t even have to get the prescriptions from the veterinarian. You guys handled it all! Love your service! And my cat is thriving on his new food! And the cost of his Bexacat is so much cheaper than going to the veterinarian to purchase it.

My cat loves it

My vet recommended this after determining my cat must have severe allergies as everything makes her sick. Nothing in this to make them sick. Also good for licking hair off on their skin. Just finished fully transitioning her and she loves it- so far so good. It is also small kibble and since she is an older cat, she seems to be able to eat it better. Have tried everything to keep her from getting sick, hope this is finally it. It’s really expensive but it’s worth it to me to not have to clean up after her every day and pknowing she feels better!

Works Great for My Cat

My cat loves this food and has really helped with easy digestion. She had a problem with other foods that she would throw up her food several times a week. She no longer does that with the Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein food.

Good food for Rufous

My cat Rufous has been on this veterinarian recommended diet for most of his 7 years and has been thriving on it. I mix it with some Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers moist food, and he gobbles it down enthusiastically.
