Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
Day 7 | 0% | 100% |

After checking with Chewy, I found that all Rx food for diabetic cats is virtually the same, Bits of meat in gravy. The only problem is that if a cat was raised on pate, they won't eat the other food, and none of the brands have a Rx pate food for diabetic cats.
My diabetic cat gets a rotation of Royal Canin Glycobalance and another prescription diabetic food. My cat likes the Royal Canin food and we're now on a 3rd autoship order. We're about halfway through the latest round of cans when my cat suddenly got sick with diarrhea and throwing up, but no problems with the other diabetic food. Initially I wasn't sure if it was the food or other factors, but after the reoccurrence following a 2nd Royal Canin can (and seeing recent reviews) seems like there are quality issues with the food.
While we have noticed some inconsistent quality in the past this last batch is particularly bad. Rigid black flakes of some material have turned up in the cans from 4 cases we have received with the date "20MAY2025" and the batch # "321B2RSD03". Additionally the food in this batch described as "thin slices" appear more as minced mush when previously they were solid consistent sized chunks in gravy.
I relied on this because my cat is diabetic but this is now the second time that he has gotten extremely ill from this vomiting and diarrhea multiple times after eating this and I have to rush him to the vet. The food is always inconsistent sometimes he won't even eat it. I believe they are selling bad batches and that they should consider recalling it. I contacted the company so we'll see how their customer service is. Please consider other options if your cat is diabetic.
Mom got me this stuff and it's got lots of gravy and small little chunks. (Mom actually uses her mortar & pestle to grind it as I'll only eat pate. she can't get this in a pate.)
Prior to switching my diabetic cat to Glycobalance, I had been using Urinary SO wet food. With my first case of Glycobalance, I immediately noticed a consistency difference relative to the other wet food. These cans appeared to have a higher water content. If I didn't know better, I would say they were just watered-down versions of other Royal Canin food. I worked through my first case and started into my second case of cans. The consistency in the second case was COMPLETELY different from the first. Far less water, far more food. I'm highly concerned about the quality control for this product. Either a) royal canin has little control over the formula that goes into these cans or worse b) they mistakenly put a Glycobalance label on a different line of food. Regardless, the new wet food is elevating my cat's glucose level more than the first case. Very unhappy and disappointed. Will be calling royal canin and chewy to resolve.
Very expensive prescription cat food for diabetic felines. My cat doesn’t come with 12 inches for this food. The dry version he will eat. Can only buy the case of 24 cans. There should be smaller quantities available and maybe a more taste worthy product for felines.
My cat would only lick the gravy and leave the chunks and because she is only fed this twice a day, no snacks, she was starving. I decided to put it in food processor and she eats it all up. It’s expensive though I wish there was a loyalty program as we go thru a case every 6 days, 2 cans am and 2 cans pm.She is holding her weight, not gaining .
Our older cat is diabetic, and she had been eating the dry glycobalance for several months. Recently she was eating less, so vet recommended the wet glycobalance, and now she eats both wet and dry mixed together. A winner!
Angel is a very picky eater and was only able to eat one brand of soft
