About Royal Canin Weight Management for Dogs

Concerned about Your Dog’s Weight?

Maintaining a healthy weight can help support your dog’s overall health. When it comes to your dog’s weight, your veterinarian is the expert. You should always consult with your vet to find the best solutions and management options for your pet.

Assessing Your Dog’s Weight

There are 9 body condition scores used to assess a dog’s weight. Talk to your veterinarian about which matches your dog.

  1. LOOK – Check your dog’s body shape to see whether she is very thin, an ideal weight or overweight.
  2. FEEL – Severely defined ribs and waist may mean your dog is very thin. Ribs easily felt but not seen, with an obvious weight, may mean she is an ideal weight. If you cannot her feel ribs and her waist is absent, your dog may be obese.
  3. WEIGH – Work with your veterinarian to identify your dog’s weight and body condition score to help your vet determine your dog’s nutritional needs.

See feeding instructions for daily amounts. It is recommended that your dog be fed 2 - 4 equal portions of the diet per day.

Does the satiety come in a smaller kibble? I’ve got a chihuahua with missing teeth and this new kibble is way too big for him.

Kibble Size and Shape

Very disappointed. My dog did not lose weight. The kibble is odd shaped and too large causing him to gag and choke. I have used several other Royal Canin Veterinary Diet dry foods. They were all outstanding and the kibble size was smaller.

Misleading

Be aware if you are not paying attention and are trying to save a few bucks, you will end up spending twice as much. There are two icons to choose. One for small breed and one for large BUT if you choose small breed and select the slightly larger bag to save a few bucks, it automatically switches to large breed. I did not notice until I opened the bag. Now it cannot be returned!

For Mr. Oso

Purchase was at first only for a one time coupon use, but both sides, you and I went through a bit of a challenge trying to get the correct prescriptions uploaded and filed for this diet food that I decided to create/keep the account open for future purchases. Thank you for all your assistance in the process to get our awesome, adorable Oso his food. Keep up the great customer service and take care.

High protein food or just wheat and corn?

Advertising as a high protein food, what protein? The main ingredient is powdered cellulose, multiple wheat/corn sources and a chicken by product meal (the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers) Cellulose is often controversial as it can be produced from leftover plant matter from agriculture and industry. Sources could include the non-digestible parts of corn plants, sugarcane plants, or even trees that are processed in mills. Powdered Cellulose provides no nutrition of protein, fat, or carbohydrates which are the core nutrients for dogs. If you want a low fat food it's usually a fish protein but you can compare the fat level of your current food to others and find one thats 3-4 % lower and it makes a difference.
